What to look for on 2002 2.6 saloon when buying
« on: 14 February 2018, 21:56:35 »

Can anyone tell me what to look for on a 2002 2.6 Saloon, things like rust areas and other problem areas?
Are they DBW?

Thanks in advance

Yes DBW, if you can get right under and check sills area, towards the back. Common rust area, check cam belt history, for oil leaks around cam covers.

Depending on spec make sure it’s still got its factory fit bits, what spec is it?

I have no connection with this one for sale but had a look over this link and it looks a cracker, and even more at the price. I can't imagine seeing one this clean for a long time. I hope someone snaps that up and it doesnt go to the crusher. :(

Christ if it were even remotely practical for me I'd get it, do the couple of jobs run it as a daily driver, but have it for sale all the time, soon as someone offers me a couple of quid more than it cost me that's equalled to free motoring!  :)

http://autoshite.com/topic/30994-omega-5-seater-bridge-beater-with-nice-heater/  just buy a cheap one and fix whatever is wrong.

Never seen that site before. Just signed up as a member.  :y
I was offered a 2.6 Elite yesterday, but haven't been told exactly where it is yet, so cant go and have a look.
I have no reason whatsoever to buy it, apart from saving it from the scrapyard, but if anyone is interested in one located in North Essex, let me know and I will get more details and go take a look.

Thanks Tunnie, for the spots to look for. The spec is CD it has roughly 97000 miles on it. The bodywork looks OK from the photos, I have seen. It has had a complete exhaust system for the MOT. I am going to see it today. I know that the brake pipes always seem to come up in MOT tests, so will check them. Do they leak oil around the cam covers, in the same places as the old V6's?  I am hoping to find someone near me in Paisley Scotland, who could do a cambelt and waterpump change. That way I know the belt is done, I can get the Gates or Contitech belt kit with adjusters and waterpump, just need someone who can fit them for me.

Hopefully will be getting it, if everything checks out.

Thanks for all the help.

Chassis rails towards the front always worth a poke as well.

To make damn sure you have enough structure left get under with a good torch and poke the chassis rails front and rear and obviously the sills. but don't forget to give the rear inner arches a good look at as well and also behind the rear bumper and suspension mounting points. which is what I never did when i bought my car from the breakers yard.....

Well I went to see the omega, took a torch and had a good poke around underneath, it all seems OK. Checked the wheel arches, looked in oil filler tube on engine, the coolant overflow tank for anything crap in it. Everything was fine for both. Took it for a drive, couldn't hear the engine when it started up, the gears change up and down great. The go fast pedal works great, got to remember it moves quicker than a 4 pot. LOL.  Thanks everyone for your advice, time will tell if everything stays OK, but for now one happy 2.6 owner.
