According to Autocar magazine.....
« on: 17 February 2018, 17:47:22 »

...........the Peugeot 605 2.2 HDI became the first diesel car to come with a DPF as standard in the year 2000. It would be another nine years before the 'technology' became mandatory on all derv cars.

Just thought the 'lorry fuel enthusiasts' amongst you would like to know. :)

Diesel, dull?

How is that possible with an engine that revs to  4000 RPM and sounds like a Leyland bus.. ::) ::) :)

The 435d is a monster. A colleague had one, would comfortably show my M140i a clean pair of heels  :o

My 19 year old 530d is pretty quick but has the turbo lag characteristic of the era!  :-\

It sounds like a bus as well!  ::)  ;D

As Mark stated, but the dinosaurs decided to ignore, Euro6 diesels are cleaner than petrol, with much better economy. Keep that head firmly buried in the sand.

My boss had just bought a C350D. It goes like stink according to him, and he is a former Monaro driver and lifelong petrolhead. I'm not convinced though. Give me a petrol V8 any day.

Diesel? Dull?

https://www.carwow.co.uk/best/fastest-diesel-cars

I get why some people with little or no interest in cars go diesel. The main interest (usually the only interest such people have) is "how many miles will my car travel on one gallon of fuel"

To such people cars are 'white goods with wheels'. Functional, practical, worthy but dull. A means of getting from A to B. :-\

What I  don't get is why anyone of sane mind would buy a 'performance diesel'

Why would a man spend £100,000+ on a Porsche Panamera  but then say to himself...... I'm happy to own a £100,0000 car that sounds like a cement mixer and has a redline of 4500 RPM provided as my car does 30 MPG instead of 20 MPG, and saves me a few hundred quid on road tax.

It just doesn't add up. :-\

If I had to guess, I would say it’s company car rules. A number of schemes (including our exec scheme) cap the CO2 that a car can produce and still be allowed in the scheme. So drivers likely face the choice of the Panamera or (say) a 2.0T Mondeo petrol as both produce similar CO2.

Interesting point, Jimmy.

However, I'm surprised people could be offered a Panamera of any description as a company car.

You must move in refined and affluent society. :)

A prol such as myself can only dream of  being so fortunate. :'(

I'm surprised your M140i was reliable enough for long enough to find out. ;)

This probably explains why our Finace director swapped his gorgeous Aston DB9 (?) for a hideous Panamera Diesel.  ::)
Doesn't make sense to me either, but there you go.
The man bought a house for almost a million quid, then promptly had it demolished and built another house where it stood, just because he liked the plot of land it was on.  ::)
