Price of pattern parts
« on: 17 April 2018, 18:47:02 »

My daughter's Seicento failed its MOT on a bottom ball joint ('failed' was an understatement really .... it was Donald Ducked)
Phone the motorfactor for a new one to be told that they only come complete with the radius arm ..... here we go I thought. How much?
How can they produce & make any kind of profit when it comes complete with both bushes & costs just £22?  :-\

It'll be good enough, you could say it's better constructed than those on an Omega in that the main body is cast steel .... not crappy pressings spot riveted together. That  £20 investment this morning has probably doubled the value of her car  :y

I bought a pair of lower arms for Mrs Griffin's Mk7 fiesta, £48 delivered, fitted fine. Was £35 cheaper than local factors, didn't bother phoning f£#d.

ever seen a cast wishbone that's hit something and bent? They snap, and leave the whole suspension flapping about.

Pressed and welded do bend, which leaves a movable car without body damage.

Even on a heavy car like an Omega a pressed and welded wishbone is far stronger than it needs to be; you lot wouldn't be pissing about changing the bushes and joints in 20 year old parts if that wasn't true.

Its never the main bodies that fail, its the moving parts.

The issue with some (and not all but, certainly the mega cheap ones) is that the moving parts are the bits that continually fail.

They were being replaced because the ball joint was fubar'd ..... they just need to last till summer when the car will be replaced  :y

Fingers crossed, I get some items which are great and last well, others don't see the guarantee out  :'( :y

They're cast on my R Class which is half a tonne heavier  ;)
