Jag trip computer v brim to brim test
« on: 28 June 2018, 21:36:00 »

The trip computer reads 25.1 MPG for 111.8 miles.

It took 22.82 litres to completely fill the tank again.

Anyone any good at maths?.....because I  can't work it out. :-\

A gallon is 4.546 litres ......

22.82/4.546 = 5.02gall

118.9 miles divided by 5.02 gall = 23.7mpg

Best not to woody about mpg when you're running a Jaaag  :y :y :y

My Astra shows 45, brim to brim is 42. A significant difference.

Using your calculations the real MPG is 22.29 and not 25.1.

Only about 90% accurate then.

Only 88 % accurate if I'm being pedantic. ::)

Doesn't sound too bad for such an engine, much can depend of course on how those 111.8 miles were covered-town/distance/mixed driving.Computer on my Elite is showing 14.5 ave at present but that's still altering after I recently reset it and it's only done journeys of not more than 3mls at a time.

My Jag over estimates by about 15% as well, and it seems most do.  I fail to understand why, particularly with direct injection, and even M could get it within 1mpg 25yrs ago...

Not that you can explain that to a Jag owner on a Jag forum ;D

Presumably it uses the overreading speedo for its information rather than the drivetrain... :-\

There was the cynic in me thinking they massively over read the MPG so as to not scare its owners, all of whom are too lazy to check manually, so will argue point blank they all get an easy 50mpg from a 300bhp 3.0l V6 diesel...

...but after reading your comments...

...I still think I'm right ;D

take it your driving it on roads ? with hills, traffic ,bends , and on days when it may be hot
so , probably not going to get MPG quoted in selling bumf
real world testing is what i do, fill up, reset the trip on the speedo
see how far i get , fill up ,calculate
my 2.6 is about 28 mpg by my maths, the computer says 24
it;s probably upset with me for sorting the N/S level sensor ,so it can't nag me anymore  :P
