Omega wheel bolt covers
« on: 30 June 2018, 22:08:12 »

Hi guys.

Ok, so I want to spruce up my wheel bolt covers. I was going to just buy a new set but I got berated from taxi al last time for being lazy  ;D so is there a way to spruce them up?

They've gone really dull. Presumably due to the TFR from the polish cleaners.

Any ideas...

TIA boyos  :y

They're plastic, and refurbishing them effectively isn't easy.

They're also shit, and best installed in the bin.

Do that, and give a quick squirt of silver paint down each wheel hole. Buy an aerosol from Poundland to do this, if you care enough.

Here's a random question.... what colour were they when they came off the production line? Mine seem like faded grey. But most vauxhalls I see have black....

My brothers are grey(or appear so) but mine are black.fiddly and a bit time consuming but mine came up fine with t cut.they finish the wheel off nicely and do need to be fitted in my opinion.there are also many original  and aftermarket ones on ebay.

Im pretty sure some were black and some were silver. Get a set of black ones and heat with a heatgun / hairdryer to make them look new and shiny again.

Mainly grey  . . .but both 03 plate omegas I have had   were fitted with black .

Have a look at these nice chrome ones on e bay .  . .  item no. 152799286791      unusually these are 31mm long & are much nearer the length of the original VX ones  . . .unlike the standard shallow 20mm usually sold on the bay of fleas.   At £ 7.99  for 20   probably as cheap as buying a can of spray paint to refurb your original ones.

I have brought a set & am  really pleased with them, they  set the wheels off well   :y :y     HTH

Of course  understand that chrome may not be everyones choice & many will want to stay OE colour  8)

Ive tried it on black plastic bumpers etc. and it works well, so presumably it will do the same with bolt covers.  :y

I bought a stackload from the dealer when then wanted shot of them, they had black and silver, but I only picked out the black.

I say black, but I think it was more a very dark grey, somewhere between charcoal grey and black.

My 2000 X plate were light grey, probably silver to start with, 03 plate are dark grey. Other vauxhalls from the same year I've had were all black.

Had a hell of a job getting one of the lockers off last year so took em all off. Only got Nexens on standard CDX wheels so not worried about wheel security.  :-*

PS4 are £150 a pop, and Sportstars are valuable.  But GM locking bolts are worse than shite, so not worth the effort.

but to replace wheels and tyres would cost time and the fat end of 600 quid so i leave em locked
i could get the GM bolts off without the key too but it slows the knobs down and is a deterant , as are the 2  HD CCTV cameras pointing at it ,the tracker i'm fitting ,etc
self propelled  motorized carriages are rare in these parts  :P

Did a refurb on mine a while ago rub down with very fine wet and dry 2000 grit paint with plastic primer and finished with  silver wheel paint( cos I had some in the shed) looked good as new. However if you can obtain silver paint suitable for plastic i suspect that would be better  :y

I fitted these ,albeit the chrome ones .
Put a little grease inside them prior to fitting so that they slide off easily when needed .
And don't lose the removal tool ........ ::)
