Broken Cambely Question ~ Astra G 03 1.6 16V
« on: 16 August 2018, 23:11:03 »

Astra G 03 1.6 16v, not sure which engine type yet, but question is if the Cambelts snaped, will it be damaged Vaives, or near miss.?

Assuming its a Belt and not Chain?

Yes, my ex-wife got the cambelt changed on her 2002 1.6 Astra by somebody she knew and it was a new head job from where it let go. :o Of course the £50 she saved on the service and cambelt meant she was only about £950 out of pocket. :-[ :-[ :-[

Yep,definite valve contact on that one sadly, some of the older 8 valvers would get away with it :-\

Based purely on the little information given, I'd scrap the car and start shopping.

I'd see what the biggest engine I could squeeze in was.

I've seen a v6 conversion in an Astra, but if I was going that route, I'd probably go z20let due to the endless upgrades available. If you got it from a GSI Astra or Zafira with the gearbox, it's almost a straight fit.

Start Shopping only picked up about a week ago,  :(, Cambelt was on my list, was for a Family Member, really clean tidy, 1.6 SXi, working LPG etc, no dents, loads of work done by previous Owner on Exhaust, Tyres, Cooling, Cats, Brakes and Front End underneath, it would drive over a Sleeping Policemen and you could hear ..... nothing.

Oh well, some you win and all that, just had a quick price up, and even with a second hand head and then Skimming its still looking at around 300 just in Parts alone.   :-\

As for Engine swap, defeats the working fitted LPG side of it.

Another 1.6 engine is the cheapest option if you'd like to save it. If you swap the bare block and head, all the LPG will be transferred over.
