I did say "by internal means" as currently you can leave your phone anywhere you like whilst you are elsewhere.  An internal chip with tracking facility will be with you always.  Only a sheet of lead will stop you being tracked!

I've been under the knife a few times, so who knows what they did while they were rummaging around!   

Perhaps I should wear a chain mail suit (not a bad idea when going to London anyway!) which would act like a faraday cage, so I can't be tracked?

Two choices here for it to be effective: earth the chain mail (difficult, if you want to move about) or have the chain mail made from mu-metal (very expensive) and have it enclose you completely - good luck with that one!
