No confidence vote
« on: 17 December 2018, 15:23:13 »

Mezzanine says he's going to trigger one if TM doesn't give a firm date for the meaningful vote when she addresses the commons at 15:30. The DUP will save the government, surely? Perhaps another £billion might keep them onside.

So, after another hour of hot air, the options remain the same:
1) The commons get so desperate to avoid a no deal, they back her deal
2) No deal
3) Extend Art 50
4) Rescind Art 50
5) Another referendum.

I can't see 1 happening. 2 is a distinct possibility. 3 and 4 won't get the backing of a majority in the house. 5, again a possibility, although one learned lady said this afternoon that that would be unlawful.

Did she say why she thought that?

He's called for a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister, not the government. So, even if it carries, it will just be another embarrassment for TM, not a big deal for the sitting government. She can't be deposed, of course, because she won the confidence vote from her own party last week.

He's a pointless bag of hot air, more intersted in appeasing his union paymasters than anything else.

Along with many of his party, and unfortunately quite a few Conservatives, he totally fails to understand simple English ....

The EU have stated, several times, that the deal on the table cannot be renegotiated .... yet he tries to insinuate that he can negotiate a "better" deal .... I with who ???

All these ideas of "alternative deals" are dreams if the EU will not, and they have repeatedly said they won't, reopen negotiations.

Let's just say to the EU "stop trying to dictate to us, we are leaving with no deal in place, you can do what you want"   :)

Sorry, Jimmy, only just saw your reply. As I understood it: For there to be a second referendum to overturn the result of the first, something has to be printed on the first ballot paper to the effect that a second referendum is possible. I have no idea if this is correct or how it would work.

On the other hand, Nige, TM knows that the deal can't be renegotiated, and that it won't pass in the house, but refuses to let go of it. Is she waiting for divine intervention?

Ah OK I misunderstood that.  :y

But I was right that it's a 'motion':)
