Welcome :y
It depends on what type of driving you do. around town I get about 200 miles to 3/4 of a tank long distance over 400.
I would say about 20-25 mpg

20 if you boot it
30 if you dont
around 35mpg on the motorway
not the best on fuel but lovely cars to drive and great value for money

When I had the 2.5 V6 (V reg) I used to get around

25-28 mpg mixed town driving,
30-34 at an "old lady" motorway rate,
18-22 towing a 1600 kg 'van
10-15 sport button engaged, brain in "fun" mode .. :)

I can

My 2.5 GLS without a computer has often returned 30/33 mpg on a tame 60/65 mph 70 mile round trip from Rotherham to Rainworth past Clumber park.

My 3.0 Elite returned 28 mpg coming back from Mablethorpe to Rotherham on a tame run of speeds up to 80mph and never nuch below 55mph

John I travel up and down and through York in my 2.5 V6 CDX and return 30 to 36 MPG regularly. I find if you keep the revs (for as long as possible) at around the 2800/3000 she purrs and returns the above miles. This can include queing in traffic in York it's self. I must agree with the other comments about the MIG once you have one you will not want to get rid.
Good Luck on the job front, presumably, that cured, the running costs will take their place in the grand order of things.
OH and finally take heed of the advice from the people on this site they are all bang on!

mine is a 2.5v6 auto and do about 260 miles a week on mixed urban/country/dual carriageway and onboard computer gives me an av of 29mpg. Dont tend to be too heavy footed these days either as harsh de/acceleration and playing with the sports mode just drinks the stuff. Always use V-power and probably put in about £40 a week. Theyre heavy cars and certainly not what youd call economical, but I think theyre a lovely car to drive with some poke when you need it. As I get older (and bigger!) the "comfort" factor becomes more important!! ;D
