Alternative to the green sealant
« on: 05 September 2006, 12:59:32 »

Is there anything I can use in place of the green vauxhall sealant 90 542 114 , as the dealer here does not have it in stock and will not order it for me, as apparantly it comes in boxes of 10 ?
cheers

If the sealant is needed for rocker cover gaskets the recommended is Black sealant part no- 93165267 the green stuff goes hard and breaks up in time.

No not for the rocker gaskets, apparently it is needed to install the 1st camshaft bearing cap. Have got the black stuff for the rockers tho   ;)

If your local dealer wont order it for you, I would be inclined to give Vauxhall a ring and ask them where to source it from (explaining your dealers position).

Sort of thing often ends with "we will send you a tube as a gesture of goodwill"

Nothing to lose.

I'm not sure either of these is exactly right but I recollect Geffd (v6man54deg) recommending loctite 5900 for a few jobs (it's what they used in the plant) I think that it was for the rocker covers, sump and some other things.

JSeaman used Omnifit green sealant for parts of his engine rebuild, but again I I'm not sure about camshaft bearing caps.

Some research on the above may find an answer.

It was Omnifit for the front camshaft bearing caps. I got some off eBay but had to wait awhile for it to come up.
