replace the steering wheel controls
« on: 16 December 2006, 16:41:56 »

One of the buttons on my controls no longer works, is it possible to swap the control for a set that do or will i be looking at a complete steering wheel?

Howdoo.  Never had to do it, but the buttons are on Ebay regularly, minus the steering wheel, so think it can be done.

hmmm ... noticed that on mine too. The volume up turns it down, the middle button on the right does squat, the bottom one turns it up. I've had the controls out and they basically switch a different value resistance to a common feed depending on which button is pressed. All connections on the board looked OK so I'm thinking perhaps it's the squib that's at fault ... but haven't done anything else about it yet!

It appears that the left side is the same too, again possibly pointing to the squib?

well - seeing as only one button on yours isn't working - and I assume that some of the functions haven't swapped themselves round (like on mine), then it may well be a dry joint on the circuit board of the relevant side of the steering wheel. It's pretty easy to get the two boards out, just remember to disconnect the battery and wait a couple of minutes before removing the airbag!

I think mine's either the squib or head unit as I seem to remember that sometimes it works OK when driving, then when I've next gone to try it, it doesn't work ...  :'(

cheers chaps, its off to the bay of E we go........

One of my buttons has collapsed, its the one that switches between functions, i have tried to repair it but it won't have it...

Does anyone know if the button sets are different pre and post facelift? Mine are a chocolate bronw, but if i have to change them to black that wouldn't be a hardship
