Replacement Radio For Omega CDX
« on: 03 December 2006, 18:41:11 »

Hi All, can anyone suggest a suitable replacement for the radio I have fitted at present, I have the Phillips CRT 700?, I think that is the model, it has the intergrated telephone. I would like a cd changer setup, as at present, or one that will play DVD music discs. It must be capable of being connected to the steering wheel remotes and preferably still show on the MID display, I realise to acheive this I will need adaptors. Can anyone recommend a make and model of radio, tell me what adaptors I will need, and how much approximately it will cost me?  Many thanks,  p.s the car is a 1999 2.5 CDX Omega (Mini Facelift)

Is your display like this?

if so, you should be able to interface the head unit with the steering wheel controls, but good luck getting it to talk to the display! My old car had a kenwood head unit fitted, the display didn't work - I bought a different wiring adaptor and that didn't operate the display either  :'(

Both adapted the steering wheel controls though  :y

It should be fairly easy to implement though, as you won't have the bose setup with its' amplifier sat between the head unit and speakers to complicate matters  :)

You ain't got a cd changer in the boot then - check behind first aid panel right side of boot. All factory fitted CCRT700 came with the changer...

Hi sounds2k, yes my display is the same, I also have the telephone display in the bottom right section.

Hi The Boy, yes it has a Blaupunkt 6CD changer in the boot, but it is skipping all the time, even on bought CD's. I would be happy with a a unit that played DVD audio discs, and do away with the CD changer, or if it is more economic, stay with the CD changer arrangement, maybe a 10 or 12 disc changer with MP3 capability. The only must have is steering remote capability, and a "would like" is to keep the in dash display. Back to work now, will check back after six this evening.

If going aftermarket, what is your budget?

Nobody makes and adaptor that works with the GID, so if you change the HU you loose the info on the display

Hi Laidback, my max spend will be about £250.

Hi Phil, I was hoping that keeping the display was possible, oh well never mind.

£250?

For me, it is the Pioneer DEH-P8600MP. Nothing better for the money (£160ish s/h from ebay).

Hi Dave, can this be wired to steering wheel controls?

Try http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk they were pretty cheap when i wanted to get some bits plus they do most adaption leads and speaker housings. Plus this one for under £200 is a rather tasty unit http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-cda9812rb-p-2193.html

just thought i would show my headunit (Alpine 9854R) sounds fantasic and really improves the sound. The bass from the standard speakers is much better compared to the weak vauxhall unit:
