just thought i would show my headunit (Alpine 9854R) sounds fantasic and really improves the sound. The bass from the standard speakers is much better compared to the weak vauxhall unit:

Very very nice looking headunit there tunnie m8 :y

Cheers.

That circle dial you see closest to you, actually pops out when you push it and becomes a manual volume knob.

This alpine unit feels very well made, much better than the Kenwood crap i had before.

I highly recommend Alpine  :y

Btw that unit was around £160 i think

Just looking at the 9854 or 9856 on offer at caraudiodirect, mmmmmm...

Have you managed to get it working with steering controls and display to the MID?

Steering wheel controls yep! - Bought the adaptor of eBay can't remeber how much, but a hell of a lot cheaper than retail.

MID - not yet, the 9854R can support factory displays, but the adaptor is quite expensive i think. Not bothered to fit one yet, not sure if i will either i don't miss it.

I was really nevous about fitting it, because i like the MID, but the better sound compensates. I suspect when i get a job and start earning money again, I will fit one.

I want to do the whole package when I do it, Steering controls and Screen
According to the site 9854 and above support displays.
obviously need to check on adapters and compatability 1st though.

I'll be doing some work on the megga at xmas, i'll pop the HU out and double check which steering wheel remote adaptor i have, if i remember correctly you need an extra loom cable which goes between the Vx loom and the headunit which has an output cable for the steering wheel control box.

Not sure about the screen, but a slight warning... space is becomming a problem. Just about managed to squeeze all my extra cables and adaptor boxes behind the facia, but there aint much room left. So tight there that the first time i plugged it all in, it did't work the loom got caught and pulled off its so tight behind there.

Space is a big problem behind the headunit.  One, maybe two adaptors will go in.
You won't miss the display.  (I don't miss the steering wheel controls that much either).

And if you prefer something a little more discreet:
