They came out at the same time and I would not imagine VX creating 2 different engines of the same size in the same year as R&D is so expensive.

Probably only drive that is different.

However I am only giving my opinion, I have no mechanical skill whatsoever.

Same block, heads and management system

Different inlet and exhaust manifolds, fly wheel, clutch, sump........so yes, a An Omega base could be used in a Vectra if certain bits were swapped over.

would the vectra be fbw  ?

I may have the chance of a very late very cheap vectra 2.6 suspect hgf  ::) now i have never heard of vauxhall v6`s having hgf - we all know for example the oil coolers tend to go.

But i am working on the worst case scenario hat it is top end damage and ( just for bad luck) bottom end damage and i need a new engine!!

v6 vectras prone to hg failure? or could it be something more sinister or even something more simple ( calling all veccys)

All 2.6's are FBW.....even in the vectra......headgasket failure....unlikely.....

thought so on both counts

so purley on a hunch Mark what would it likely be if a muppet mechanic tells you your 2.6 v6 has hg failure? Oil cooler again?

I know we cant diagnose a car from a one line description but i am ust thinking that i really really doubt the head would go and its probably easier than heads......

Would be very unusual if it was HG.  Plus, I reckon you have abilities and equipment to do even if it was ;)
