Easy Rider spawned many a bedroom wall poster with Peter Fonda riding the "Captain America" Harley. It's said that Henry Fonda watched the film and didn't understand it at all.The signature tune[referenced by Opti] was of course Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf and is a record I still have in my collection.

Anthoine Hubert F2 driver at Spa.

Motor racing is still pretty dangerous despite the advances made.

And although Spa is probably the greatest race track in the world, if a driver has an accident there, its likely to be a really big one unfortunately.

For those who may not be too distressed:

I just didn't think modern race cars at that level could disintegrate like that, and shouldn't the driver be in a completely protective cage? :o :o :o :o

Lizzie, that clip does not show the true nature of the incident, if you wish to search there are "better" :( clips that do.......

Essentially, Hubert, at 170mph, goes off track to the right and hits the right hand barrier, bounces off it and comes back across the track at 90 degrees.

Correa is on the track and suddenly has a car crossing him at 90 degrees, and can do nothing about it.

Correa is doing around 170mph, Hubert has no speed in the same forward vector, all his speed is at 90 degrees to Correa, so its like sitting in a stationary car and being hit at 170mph... result .. the carnage you see.

Even if he had been in a "cage" the resultant "G" forces on his body would be horrendous and probably fatal. Correa probably only survived because his forward "vector" meant that the "G" forces were somewhat reduced...... essentially he slowed down in the same line (very quickly admittedly) but Hubert was "wrenched" through 90 degrees almost instantly.

Racing is dangerous ..... never, ever, forget it .. :(

RIP, a brave young man.

Having seen the aftermath, doing the same thing to a road car at motorway speeds is enough to nearly split it in two.  :'(

Cages are no longer in use in single seaters. The car is built around an immensely strong carbon fibre tub, which the driver sits in.
This has ben the case since McClaren introduced the idea in the 80,s. No doubt it has saved many lives since, but there are limits to any safety device and yesterdays accident was one of those.
It happened up at the top of Eau Rouge where speeds are mind boggling. Watch the F1 race in just over an hours time and see just what kind of speeds are involved at that part of the track.
They know and accept the risks, but its always sad to see this happen. Particularly to one so young. RIP.
