Omega General Help / Tick over lumpy, EGR valve?
« on: 19 July 2018, 13:10:37 »
All, hi again.
I have a 2001, Omega 2.2 Petrol.
Tick over is rough, like its missing but not quite, if you know what I mean.
I have done all the normal things, removed all the intake side, cleaned and replaced, along with a new airfilter.
This did not stop it so I replace the plugs… still no satisfaction.
When cold, there is a lot of noise from the manifold, like it is blowing, but this soon goes and is replaced by the uneven running.
On the road it is fine, it is just tick over (600 rpm).
It has been suggested that the EGR valve could be stuck open, (the car has done 206,000) and i am not aware of any changes of this valve.
Is there any advice you can give?
I not, any info or advice for replacing or blocking the EGR valve?
Where exactly is it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Omega General Help / Aircon fill valve problem
« on: 04 May 2018, 19:05:44 »
Hi all,
I have a Y reg Omega estate 2.2.
My aircon is leaking, it passes the leak test on the machine but once disconnected, the gas goes in a few hours.
Very frustrating  :'(
To me the prime suspect is the fill valve.
Can someone point me in the right direction please for a new valve, and maybe how to fit it?
Thanks in advance. :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Auto gearbox fault codes
« on: 01 January 2010, 18:56:55 »
During the recent cold spell, I started my Omega (Y reg. CDX estate 2.2 petrol).
The automatic change position indicator light kept flashing around from D to P to 3 etc and then had all the lights on.
After a while the engine management light came on (not the car with the spanner).
My current situation is that i have had the codes read by a friend of mine.
P1700 and P700 which point to the TCU. Sometimes I have a full gearbox but the light favours the 3 position occasionally flashing around. Other times i only have manual selection of 1, 2 and 3.
I do not believe the is a ‘real’ fault but a sensor problem.
Can anyone help, or just point me in the right direction please.

Many thanks in advance.

Omega General Help / Oil leak question. Omega 2.2 Petrol
« on: 02 March 2008, 18:38:10 »
When I was cleaning out the breather pipe from the sump yesterday (also replacing the metal gasket). I noticed I had an oil leak. Initially I thought it was coming from the breather gasket, but on closer examination it is coming from above it. I cannot see the source as it is behind the exhaust manifold.
Has anyone got any ideas where it may be coming from? :-/

Omega General Help / Throttle position sensor, success story.
« on: 01 March 2008, 19:56:03 »
Well…once again this web site has helped me solve a problem with my Omega.
Last week it was the power sounder (thanks Debs). ;)

The other problem started about 6 months ago when I brought the car.
I kept getting a random ECU light (one with the spanner). I took it back under warranty and the garage did their tech bit on it. Lambda sensors they said, we will replace the problem part. This they did and then on the way home up popped the light again. It was random in the way it popped up, sometimes not for days. It had no effect on the running of the engine that I could detect, if you stopped and turned off the ignition it would clear and then not come back on. So I took it back and they checked the code….Lambda sensor again. So, they said that this time they would put a genuine VX part in, that should do it…… well, on the way home it popped up again, I rang them and they said to take it to Vauxhalls and they would pay the bill. :)
This I did and Vauxhalls said the code actually said it was the throttle position being in an unexpected position for the engine as it was running at the time. They followed the book, which involved clearing the ‘learned’ values and assured me it would be OK now. The bill was £90.0 (paid by the garage I brought it from). ;)

Well…you have guessed it, it came on again! VX said that it was a faulty ECU which would cost around £800 to fit. I did not believe it was this and asked what happened if they changed it and the fault was still there? The answer was effectively that was the risk I had to take! Not happy with this and very happy with everything else on the car I decided to leave it and carry on with the light popping up every so often.
Over the last month the light got more regular and would come on within a minute of setting off.

When reading this forum I found this thread
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1202157944
Which awakened my interest the problem again.
The thread pointed me to
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1162397695
This awakened my interest the problem again.
Well today i went out an brought the 2 gaskets and followed the procedure laid out.
I can confirm that the hoses were partly blocked with sludge and the small hole mentioned was blocked.
After much cleaning (it was in a state) i reassembled and started the engine. I know I had had an effect because the engine ran rough for a minute as it re-learned the changed situation.
I took it out for a 10-mile drive and all is well, no light, no problem. The engine runs really well, and I am sure it now changes gear better on the auto box.

So, lesson learned, 2 garages failed to solve this problem, the OOF had the answer! ::)
I would recommend this procedure on the carb to anyone who my have random ECU light, to be honest, it is so easy to do and the car must run better when all that crap is cleared out, I think it is worth just doing it!

Well done OOF slap yourself on the back.
 ;D :y

Omega General Help / Alarm fault Omega Estate 2.2
« on: 23 February 2008, 14:10:51 »
Help!

I have a problem that has developed over the last 2 weeks.
I have an Omega Estate 2.2 (2001) model. (post facelift)
The alarm keeps going off, no reason I can see.
I have disabled the internal cabin sensors and it still does it.

But….not all the time.

If I go for a run it will do it, maybe 3 times then after 1 hour or so I can set it and no problem? :o

1)      Any ideas what to look for?
2)      Can I disable the alarm but still lock the car?
Some guidance would be gratefully received. :y

Omega General Help / ECU light and mobile phones
« on: 20 October 2007, 16:44:01 »
I have a 2001 CDX Omega, it has a strange problem.
The ECU light (the one with the spanner and car) come on once in a blue moon.
There is no logic to it, it just comes on when it feels like it.
It can be 150 miles or just a few. The Vauxhall garage checked the fault code and it said something about the throttle position sensor not matching the engines situation.
Recommended solution was to clear all learnt values from the ECU and then drive it so new values can be stored.
This was done but the problem continues. The engines performance does not change when the light comes on and if the car is stopped and the engine re-started the light goes of and stays off till it feels like coming on again!

I took it back to the garage where i purchased it and they kept it for a week, used it daily and took it on a 150 mile trip...the light never came on!

I picked it up and drop the 50 miles back to my house...no light until I was 10 miles away from home and used my mobile to call home. The mobile is in a holder on the air vent next to the matrix display. It is linked by Bluetooth to my Tom Tom.

When I made the call...the light came on.

I think the phone may be causing interference in the ECU and throwing up a error even when there is not one.

Has anyone had anything like this before? Do you think it could be real?
Thoughts please.
