Six down, two to go
« on: 21 June 2016, 15:19:05 »

Today Tricia's police special passed its MOT, with advisories on rusty front discs and 'suspension component mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive offside rear inner' (2.4.A.3). Not quite sure what the last item refers to.

Next car due MOT is Jonny's 2.2 KR02, which was involved in a little accident 10 days ago. It is still running around, in pick up truck mode, more or less road legal, lacking only rear number plate illumination.

I did say 'more or less road legal'. I admit the number plate is not lit, and the n/s rear light unit is damaged, but all its bulbs work. Every night I see many cars with one headlight not lit, not strictly legal, but I have never heard of then being prosecuted. Jason will tell us.

What about lack of rear fog lights. I know they won't be needed but aren't they still supposed to be present? Haha

Given the rubbish amount of policing these days, due to swinging cuts, you might be lucky. But if you were unlucky enough to have a patrol car behind you he may want a quick word ???

Seven down, none to go. Today daughter's 2.6 CDX petrol manual passed its MOT, no advisories.
In the year Jonny's 2.2 (MOT due in September) got bumped in the rear while stationary on M32, writing it off, other insurer paid me £700 for the wreck. I replaced it with an X reg 2.2 off e-bay for £196, with MOT till next April.
Next year I shall do it all over again.

Yes, should be in general chat.
So you have three, do you? It's refreshing how many members have more than one Omega. Some members are moving on to 'more modern' vehicles, I am more than content with my Omegas; comfortable, fast, reliable, cheap to buy and cheap to run. My 2.5 gives me 30.4mpg over the last six months which ain't bad. The estates are great load carriers. Best of all, this wonderful forum with a wealth of knowledge, advice and banter.

Couldn't have put it better. Average MPG 29. I have 2 estates and just soooooo roomy with the back seats down.  :) :y

Don't know yet if my ebay bargain will run again  :'( It served me well for 4.5 years and never let me down. At a bargain £400 I never had to spend more than £25 to get it through any MOT (tyres excepted). As well as the handbrake cable problem, it sustained front end and steering trackrod damage after rolling away and demolishing a wall.  :(  Sitting on the driveway looking sad now.

Even with a £10k budget, I've come to the conclusion that there isn't a worthy replacement out there that doesn't require a huge compromise that an Omega doesn't have. With £20k, I can get quite close, but still looking at 5-6yr old vehicle with 80-100k on clock :(

And believe me, I've looked. Hard.

It's not caused by damage, it's caused by removal of the bumper - Pass and advise ::)

There is nothing to like about a Passat, apart from maybe the complete lobotomy that occurs around the purchase of any VW
