NEARLY passed the MOT.....
« on: 11 September 2017, 10:06:26 »

.....with advisory on one front tyre and a fail on the other one.
I don't want to start another tyre thread, but could you guide me to a reasonable non-ditchfinder tyre or two, please gents.

Ron.

I'd go for Michelin PS4, but might not have the life the OP wants.

For steadier drivers, any branded tyre will do.  Just avoid the budgets, as they tend to let go badly in the wet.

With the current tyre labelling system, I wouldn't pick anything that cannot gain an A in the wet.  A covers anything from "just about good enough" to "excellent". Anything B or lower comes into "utter shite"

I run Bridgestone re002 Potenza on my Mfl estate with the same size.

Also run them on my 4x4 Saff and my Escort cabriolet.

Really, no car should fail the MOT on tyres. It's like wipers and washers, and lights. Something that every owner should at least check and remedy as required before the test.

With old cars like the Omega there's no point in spending money on things like tyres before the MOT, as there might be other issues that consign it to the scrappy.  Then you've wasted your money!  ;)

Yes, Sir Tig and that is also why I haven't yet bought the radiator that nit seems I need. Plus, in my defence, Kwikfit gave them the OK just a few days before the MOT - and THEY would have wanted to want to sell me tyres at any excuse!

Lets be a bit sensible here . . . & I have done this many times myself at MOT time, Ron was never gonna put new tyres on BEFORE the MOT , as he wanted to know what the rest of the car was like BEFORE chucking any money at it.
As it happens  . . .all looking good for him now . . .  couple of new tyres & a rad & the 'Ol Girl is good for another year at least ;) ;) ;)

Which means you are illegally driving on duff tyres in the days before the MOT ?
