CO read 0.00, HC read between 1 and 6, but Lambda read between 1.12 and 1.5 - machine said must be between .97 and 1.03. Tha lad failed it for this reason. I asked what it meant and how I should rectify it, he has no idea. I said I thought it was oxygen level, he said it could be.
My inclination is to change the oxygen (lambda) sensor. Is this wise?

Hi DavidF,
normally we post that sort of enquiry in 'Omega General Help'. Sorry I did not respond earlier.
Changing crank sensors on 2.0 and 2.2 Omegas is tricky. Phil Rich says he can do it withou removing the n/s engine mounting, but I failed to do so.

I have changed several (I run three 4 cylinder Omegas for wife and two sons). I did it as follows.
1. Remove n/s engine mounting - Jack up n/s of engine with block of wood to spread load on sump, undo nuts attaching engine mounting to brackets, raise engine to allow removal of engine mounting; then unbolt engine mounting bracket form engine and remove that. I used a screw jack for this job. It is secure, though I also place an axle stand unde the wood block.
2. Remove dip stick and tube. Just remove dip stick, then remove screw holding tube to bracket, wiggle and pull tube and it comes out upwards.
3. Trace upper end of crank sensor cable, it's high and at the front of the engine. Unplug it and tie some string to it.
4. Locate the crank sensor. You can see it from above to the right of the dip stick tube hole. I recommend placing a large bolt in the dip stick hole, so that the head stops it falling in, to prevent other things falling in. You can see the crank sensor now, and its torx heard screw. With a torx female socket and long wobbly bars you can undo and remove the screw. You can now grope and grip the sensor and pull it out of the block.
5. Now you can pull the sensorto the rear of the car, then pull it upwards, dragging cable and string behind it. You will have fun manoeuvring the plug down under and behind the compressor. Then you have removed the old crank sensor and have the string in place to haul up the lead and plug of the new one. Have a cup of coffee and a biscuit.
6. Now tie the connector of the new sensor to your string and pull it beneath the compressor, wiggle it past the brackets and up towards the other connector. By feel you can insert the new sensor in the hole. Now all you have to do is insert the screw.
7. Phil Rich says he can do it from above, with the same torx socket and wobbly bars. I failed to do so. If you can do it, then you did not need to remove the engine mounting! To be fair, everything so far I have done with the enging mounting left in place. It's probably worth your while trying to do likewise. If you now fail to get the screw in, you will have to remove the engine mounting to get it in. You could be lucky, or more skilled than me.

Good luck. If you wnat any more help, I should do it in general help. Others may find it helpful. Or if I'm giving bad advice they will say so.  I will post this in general help anyway. I do not often check my messages, but I read general help daily.

If pics would help I have some somewhere.

Terry

I need a rear bumper for above car to replace flashy but fragile existing bumper. In the past I have bought parts from  Bristol and Swindon, but do not have details of the breakers there. Can anyone help?

This car came with a silly bumper made from glass fibre. It is very fragile. I need to replace it. Will a bumper off a saloon fit? Will a bumper off a preface lift saloon fit? (I've got one of those)

As above, can collect Bristol Bath Swindon Oxford area

Just a word to thank Jimbob and OOF for the excellent guide here, with part numbers and prices. In the past I have struggled with drills, roll pins and araldite, unaware I could buy the complete part from Vx for £7.

My son Jonny's car had the engine block orange EML come on last Monday, car still ran OK. My OBD2 reader reads P1130 Manufacturer Control. I cannot find P1130 in the code list for the 2.2. What does it mean please?

I am in love with my JVC KS-FX222 with 12 disc multichanger. I use in it random mode, playing any track in the magazine. I had it in Omega X84GNB, which I scrapped yesterday. I had removed the head unit, and the magazine unit, but had difficulty removing the connector cable so cut it, imaging it would be easy to rejoin.

Today I installed head unit and magazine unit, cable ends, and rejoined the cables. Within a screen were 5 simple cables (green, grey, yellow, brown and black) and 2 white cables containing within screens a red and a grey wires. I soldered all wires together and used shrink wrap insulation. On first assembly I mistook the screened grey as a simple white, joining the screen. On test all worked all right, excapt left hand stereo channel was absent on CD play

I guessed the other white cable might contain a screened wire, so checked - it did. I then connected grey inner and screen separately. It then worked briefly. Then on pressing the CD button the CD player did not engage.

I then rewired all cables more carefully. CD player still did not engage. I installed a spare head unit. This worked briefly, then it failed similarly.

I have tried resetting the CD magazine unit - hold down eject button 3 seconds - no joy. I have tried resetting head unit - hold down select and attenuate buttons 3 seconds - no joy. Fuses are fine.

I am defeated. Please help.

Omega General Help / Why do cam sensors never fail on V6 Omegas?
« on: 06 April 2014, 07:16:49 »
X84GNB 2.5 petrol V6 estate
Stripping above car for spares, I realised that I did not know where the cam sensor was, never having changed one. I wonder why they are so troublesome on four pot Omegas, and as good as gold on V6 Omegas?

I have been plagued while on this site by an intrusive advert which leaps on to my screen on about every third mouse click. It has CNN top right of screen, and a sound track telling me to pay close attention to his sales chat. My wife, a professional IT technician, cannot shift it. Have any other members suffered it? Is there a simple cure?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CCR2006 random play
« on: 30 March 2014, 20:52:13 »
I have a Phillips CCR 2006 radio/cassette/CD player in my Omega with 4 disc magazine. Handbook states in RDM mode 'tracks from all discs in the magazine are selected'. Mine only plays tracks from one disc in random mode. Have I misunderstood the handbook, or is there some way of persuading it to play any track from any disc in the magazine? I may add in another cr I have a JVC radio/tape/CD player with 12 CD magazine, and that has random 1 and random2 modes; random 1 plays in any order tracks from selected disc, random 2 plays any track from any disc. I use it in random 2 mode most of the time.

This car's aircon does not blow cold, but otherwise the car is in excellent condition. If I have the aircon regassed professionally, will it work? I have the impression that if gas is lost compressor seals fail. I have a similar 2.5 petrol estate in tatty condition and with noisy rear wheel bearing, but working aircon. I intend to scrap the tatty car. Should I keep the compressor?

X168JAT 2.5 petrol manual estate
Gentlemen, please forgive me, I asked this question before when changing the exhaust manifold on another 2.5 estate. Now I am changing the windscreen wiper motor assembly. This time I have a hose emerging from right lower wing, rising into a straight coupling, then ending in a right angle rubber joint. Where should it go? I think last time it was a vacuum purge hose.

Omega General Help / Can I regass my aircon myself?

Changing the wishbones on above car I had great difficulty getting the taper bin out of the hub. I managed to hammer in a pickle fork which got it half way out, but there it stuck, with the pickle fork all the way in. I then removed the pickle fork, but the pin was still well stuck. I have changed wishbones before, and by this stage they just popped out. Not this time. I had to resort to hammers, drifts and bad language.
The pickle fork wedge went from 1 to 13mm depth. What I wanted is a second pickle fork going from 10 to 23mm to finish the job. Does anyone make one?
