General Discussion Area / Re: Boots
« on: 20 February 2024, 09:31:32 »
All the little seaside towns I went to at the weekend had either just closed their Boots stores, or were doing so in the next couple of weeks.

I suspect it will just mean Mrs TB has to queue for even longer at the pharmacy at our local medical centre...   ...now there is a prime example to all how not to run anything, useless, incompetent jobs worth r-soles.  Usually takes about 30mins to pick up a prescription, and they invariably get it wrong, then insist on a note from the doctor to rectify their blunders.

But its understandable, seeing as the kiddiewinks now can't lift their backsides from the gaming chair.  The strange people opposite get their first takeaway delivered about now, then another around mid afternoon, and then another late evening, before they go to work for their night shift.  I'm hoping their baby gets more than Dominos....

Sounds like my garage I know its there but cant find it. Martin did a fob for me some time ago fantastic service, now looking for a rebuild on a door locking solenoid.I believe it was "Steve" who did those.
Again, just replace switches, decent ones are under £1 each, and Kevin Wood did a great guide :y

I’ve done a fair few 36+ hour shifts, unplanned obviously.  Generally I found once through that brick wall around the 36hr mark, you can keep going for about 60hrs before you just fall asleep where you stand.  Or start seeing very real things that aren’t really there

Just replace latch if that’s the fault. He needs reliability from it

Did the first long-ish trip in hers today, seeing as mine is still busted.  Previously, furtherest I’d gone in it was central Londonium or Brumingham.

Might have gone through some puddles that were deeper than they looked as well.

Ignoring the fact it’s a manual, it was a lovely cruise down to the seaside, and if the app is to be believed, mid 50s on Opti’s favourite fuel

They are every bit as comfy a mile eater as the Omega was. (when burning the correct fuel, at any rate. ;D Never sampled the tractor variant.)
I was pleasantly surprised, esp as hers is the weight reduced one (hence small fuel and ad blue tanks) to get it in the £0 tax bracket, so probably has lighter, less luxurious seats.

I love driving it around the lanes, although hers lacks power, it can embarrass a lot of cars in corners

Everyone needs a good smash to drum home some limits.  Fortunately sounds that the learning exercise completed without any harm beyond pride (and a bumper and radiator etc)

If it’s intermittent, it’s often loom, usually either side of multi plug near horn

General Car Chat / Re: Adblu top up

Stick a 10 litre bottle in there, Ray, that should do you for around 10,000 miles.
Her car only has a 9l pigs piss tank.  Kinda annoying when its sold in 10l bottles!

All the Adblue I've bought in Costco has come in a gallon/5litre bottle  ;)
Ours sells the Redex in 10l, and not very cheaply either.

Appreciate your honesty.  :y  I do know that if the owner of a 3.0/3.2 tootled about in it, it would drive like a dog, so you could have a flat 3.2 losing badly to a decent 3.0 and vice versa.
Must have been pure luck that mine and yours went so well.  ;)  ;D ;D
I did get to drive a few when I used to do a lot of diagnostics stuff on them, many locals will know my standard test route that has a good selection of handling, tram lining, flat out running and heavy braking.

Yeah, defo some dogs, but mostly for a given engine they went similarity :y.  Both my 3.0 and 3.2 I'd class as "not dogs" :y.  The biggest thing with most was owners never sorted the sloppy suspension issues.  Or shitty brakes that would fail on the short test run.

I never found one that handled as well as my beloved silver bullet.  Ask anyone who drove it.  To the point, when I scrapped it, Gixer and I swapped all the suspension over with TBE in the hope of getting TBE handling as well, but it didn't. Absolutely no idea what was going on there.

In fact, the only 3.2 to ever beat my old 3.0l bullet was Hotel21 in his estate.  Possibly because he knows how to drive. Or because I think he had Jura pup in the boot, egging him on ;D
You just said a mouthfull. You've admitted that, with a competent driver, even a 3.2 estate can outpace a 3.0 saloon. Case closed.
Yeah, but the 3.0 saloon had a disability....   ....me ;D

Both of us got beat on most runs by a clapped out MX-5 ;D

Was a cracking day, though - hooning around a runway, H21 taught me the intricacies of how to do J-turns properly (a skill I've never, ever had a use for, officer ::)), followed by an evening with people I'm honoured to call friends, talking shite and supping beverage and eating BBQ.
Elite Pete's MX5, IIRC.
Yup, that's the one.  But he did look silly in it though ;D

My old boss reckoned his 3.0 manual Omega (ex plod) averaged 35mpg,
Actually easily achievable from a manual one over a tank if not ragging it off the line all the time.
