It would be a struggle to worsen it :D

It looks like the were relying on the boatd spacing to avoid cutting in the hearth :-\

If they had started with a half board, they would have gotten the front edge and a chunk of the sides spot on.

My late FIL was an accomplished DIY enthusiast. His work was simply flawless.

He used to say a good amateur is  as good as a professional provided he thinks it through and takes his time.

Obviously this sentiment doesn't apply to brain and open heart surgery. ;)

We, at OOF, have faith in your ability, Mr Beanz. :y

An amateur has more time to do a good or excellent job.

A good professional knows when and what is good enough. Anyone who doesn't make visible pieces fit properly cannot be considered 'good'.

Sums it up really. .....plus they tend to care more.

My sister needed a new fence because a gap at the end meant her mutt could escape. A builder was engaged and the four foot gap became a two foot gap.......still more than large enough for her sinewy pooch to make it's bid for freedom.

His solution to the problem........."stick some chicken wire in the hole, darlin".... ;D

She was not pleased. ::)
