Poverty tax.  ;)

It's not unusual to go into a newsagent in a 'deprived/rough' area and see people buying 40 fags and £20 worth of lottery tickets/scratch cards.  :-X  ::)

SWMBO has just started serving behind the counter that sells lottery tickets. Did you know there was a £10 sctrach card?  ??? ???

I am not sure what the prizes are as I do not do the lottery, but I remember one of the money wizards (like Martin Lewis) stating that the match 3 balls odds were 57-1.
As he said, if you put a pound on a horse in the Grand National, and it won at 57-1, would you be happy to walk into the bookies, and him hand you £10. I think not.
But the Lottery works on the  'if' syndrome.....common sense loses out to the 'if I win the lottery'. The thought of masses of money falling into people's hands, clouds their judgement :(

Prize Funds -

                       £2(49).               £2(59)
Match 2.          n/a.                     Free Ticket.                    Fixed Prize
Match 3.          £25.                     £25.                              Fixed Prize
Match 4.          £100.                   £100.                            Estimated Funds
Match 5.          £1000.                 £1000.                          Estimated Funds
Match 5+1.      £50,000.              £50,000.                       Estimated Funds
Match 6.          Jackpot.               Jackpot.                        Shared Funds

Increased Odds of winning but the same the same Prize Fund breakdown. With the exception of Match 2 which gets you a free ticket.

Odds of winning a Free Go is 1:10, which if you do the Mathis, means the Odds on winning another free ticket with that are 1:100 on your second go, and 1:1000 on your third and so on.

Odds on winning £25 with your free ticket, compared to the odds of winning a free ticket is 1:300.

We too have used the same numbers since the start, however when the Wed draw appeared, we just play on the Sat still. But as you have done, now that the've added another 10 numbers, we're calling it a day too. Possibly get a lucky dip when there's a Euro roll over  ;)

Keeping to 49 numbers Camelot could to a certain extent retain it's customers.

Raising the number of balls to 59 is a big mistake.

RE: The people who have had the same numbers for a while.... the addition of extra numbers doesn't reduce your chance of winning (beyond that of anyone who picks at random, lucky-dip or otherwise).

The odd's of the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6 coming out of the machine are identical to any other random 6 numbers.

A lot of people pick numbers on the basis of their family's birthdays..... logically, the highest number will be 31.  Doesn't matter if there were 99 numbers to choose from, the odds remain the same*.

*same as anyone else playing who may choose from the entire spectrum of numbers (see the 1,2,3,4,5,6 fact).

Id chuck the money your not spending in the premium bonds (£100 at a time)

Similarly crap odds of winning, but at least you can have your stake back at any point :y

....

It has to be less as there are now more numbers to choose from. If there were only 20 numbers, there'd be a greater chance of 1 2 3 4 5 6 coming out than if there were 100 numbers

It was very convenient how they waited a few years before they started the lucky dips, by that time so many people had their own numbers memorised

I think it all started going down hill with all the bloody hot picks and thunder ball gash

One big Saturday draw is a far better idea.

I remember single jackpots at £20 Million.

Now you can have a double roll over at less than £10 Million

At least Dick Turpin wore a mask :)
