Hi All
omega 2.6 auto
So I’ve got a water leak at the back of the engine
I though it would be the hbv , removed cover from wipers
Had a good feel and look around but I can see any leak from either the coolant pipes or the hbv
All dry
Whilst I’m doing this water is still dripping
Seems to be coming from top of gear box area

Also looking around for this leak I noticed a pipe sitting on top of the gear box
Black Rubber pipe about 10mm in diameter
One end leads to top of gear box somewhere but can’t tell and other end was in my hand lol
Now I’ve tried to figure out if I’ve accidentally pulled it off somewhere or was it already disconnected
Water still dripping
Any ideas

Could be water draining from the scuttle foam.

If it's definitely coolant, pressurise it and have another look, but be cautioned that the hbv tends to leak on some heater settings and not others. Failing that, the oil cooler plate might be the culprit.

That hose was the gearbox breather

Ok so the hose just sits on top of the gear box unconnected ??

I am losing coolant and have to top up
I’ve noticed the coolant filler cap was leaking too
I’ll get a new one tomorrow if the stealers have one
Hopefully it is only the cap

Might be lucky

If it's a general, unidentified leak then cap, reservoir and radiator are all likely candidates. Oil cooler plates can rot out, but really only if the coolant hasn't ever been changed.

Gearbox vent pipe connects to a spigot on top of gearbox near the bell housing iirc and is kind of tucked up next to the brake vacuum plumbing

I did a oil cooler change recently and was dreading that maybe I hadn’t done it right.
I’ve looked around that area

To check HBV; with engine idling and hot, set temp to MAX and check for drips above gearbox; if no drips, set heat to MIN and check again.

If the coolant cap doesn’t fix it

I too "found" that pipe when I did the cam covers and spent ages trying to figure out where it should attach to and I couldn't recall having disconnected such a thing in the first place.Eventually found out it was the gearbox breather and it doesn't attach anywhere at its top end just vents to atmosphere

Check the HBV inlet hose. It curls around in a pigtail and connects to a spigot on the back of the engine. Awkward to see. It can split under the hose clip and spray out coolant onto the bell housing.

Managed to get a header cap from a scrappy of a zafira as still no joy with the stealers.
Still loosing coolant
Noticed water dripping from the drivers side footwell
I pulled the trim back and the carpets and can see it dripping quite bad
Does this mean matrix is gone or could it be a washer Or seal
Really not looking forward to changing the matrix

we spent ages last year trying to dry SWMBO's car out after a blocked scuttle soaked the interior .... not sure if it is actually properly dry (but I don't drive it very often  )

Does this mean that matrix leaking is causing the water to somehow make its way under the car above the gear box as it’s dripping on the drive from that area
Or have I got two separate leaks

Can I by pass the heater matrix by coupling the in out pipes from the bulk head to eliminate any other leaks

Pulling the carpets is the ONLY way to get them dried out.
