Hi All,
Joined the forum yesterday as I am in the market for an Omega and owners clubs are usually the best place to get friendly advice.
Let me start with a brief introduction.
My name is Mark, 29 and live in Berkshire with my lovely fiancee and two ankle biters. Having just sold my Monaro I was intending to buy a cheap run around but can't bring myself to buy a 1.6 Asrta/Vectra or such like.
What I would like is an Omega 3.0 Elite, Auto box and leather. I have seen a few advertised and a couple with Irmscher kits. What is the going price of these? Also, what needs to be paid special attention to when I go to look at one?
Jim - I especially like your car. What would a late 90's model with 100,000+ miles set me back?
Look forward to speaking to many of you in the coming months.
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Danny,
It is that car that has prompted my questioning. What in your folks opinions is it worth?
Many thanks,
Mark
-
I know Jim has done alot of work on his, and the black one he got at a VERY good price
the one i linked has 132k on it, i cant be bothered reading the whole advert but i reckon £1000 would probably be my limit, which is what it's at now i think

Right, I have spoken to the chap and arranged to go and see it. What is especially important to check on these cars?
Also, has anyone else formed an opinion on value? 1,000 ain't gonna buy it, how much over that should I stop at?
Cheers all,
Sipey

Howdoo and welcome to OOF. Best place for Omega info on the web. Pull up a keyboard and feel free to join in the gags and banter in genchat and elsewhere.... :y
The car you have spotted is a pre facelift that has climate control. Its not a mini facelift as it has see through headrests and no side airbags on the front seats. Engine is the short plenum rather than the longer plenum version of the later models.
Does have the Irmscher bits and bobs but also higher miles.
As others have said, probably heading towards the top of its value but, as always, dependant on actually viewing the car and getting the best impression of how its been cared for. At least one tyre seems to be a Pirelli!
Ensure the timing belt and tensioners have been done at 40k miles/4 year intervals, without fail. Rocker gaskets do leak. Front wishbones do wear. Heater Bypass Valves do fail as do oil coolers. Read the info on here and get as much bargaining info as you can...
good luck!! :y

Hi and welcome to OOF.

Hi Mark and welcome :)
-
Hi all,
I picked the car up today - had to pay a little bit more than the 1,000 but not much.
In my opinion it is worth every penny. It has every receipt/invoice for it since new and the body work and interior are pristine. With the exception of a small ding in the rear near side door and a light 2" scratch on the driver’s door that will clay out, the exterior is spotless.
Has had an aftermarket stereo put in it which has subsequently been replaced with a cheap POS so will pop out at the weekend and buy something decent.
Weather depending, I will take some pics over the weekend and post them up.
Cheers all for the advice and the warm welcome.

Hi Mark and a belated welcome. :) Bet you were gutted to part with the Monaro! :'( Most of the guys on here drool over them.
Good to see you've got yourself sorted out with an Omega now - sounds like a good buy. :y

Hi Sipey, and welcome to the forum!
I have just bought another Omega, a W reg 2.5 V6 CDX auto saloon with 104k on the clock, immaculate, fdsh, new brakes, tyres, exhaust, MOT for £2,100.
Once bought a 1996 3.0 Elite auto saloon, fdsh, fully loaded 4 years old for £11,000; sold it in 2002 for just £3,000!
I think from what I know that somewhere between £2,000 to £3000 will give you a pretty good example.
All the best Lizzie Zoom :D:y

Hi and a belated welcome to the OOF :y
Shame to see a Monaro go I bet, but you have bought a beautiful Miggy there, I hope you're enjoying it and not too disspointed after the massive step down in power.
