Stopped for lunch just south of Bordeaux where it's 16° :y .
The grinding is getting worse, and the visible metal to metal area is noticeably bigger.
So it looks like I'll be doing an emergency rear pad change on Monday, assuming that I can find some >:(

I’m surprised you are owning up to this Nick. ::) good luck with locating a set. :y

I found an Opel dealers in Limoges some years ago who were very helpful when I needed a fan motor relay.

I will happily send you a set over but wont get the post till Monday now if you are really stuck and are there for a few more days..think we could do next day DHL or similar.

Drop me a pm if you get stuck :y

Why the surprise? They've been on there six years, and looked OK the last time I was under there; sometime last summer. Or spring. Or possibly even for the MOT last year ;D  If I'd had any suspicion about them, I would have dealt with them before we left

Now we're at my aunt's house, there's a motor factors 6 miles away in the next town. I'll head there on Monday and get a set of pads. They seem to be a fairly common GM fitment. I'm limited by tools and equipment, but I reckon I can safely change brake pads using the scissor jack and a big block of timber for an axle stand.

If scuttle needs sealing, something is wrong. 99 times out of 100, the windscreen seal is not fully seated along the bottom edge of the glass.  Push this thoroughly back on.

Thanks for the tip, thought that was more a trim rather than a seal.
Which way am I likely needing to push? Perpendicular to the screen or up the screen.

Both probably. The bit you see clips down into a c section into which the screen slots. (this is actually the case for the entire screen trim, front and tailgate ;)

Changed front springs and pads on a friends 5 year old Focus, shit of a job, most of the bolts were seized, they use that pain in the arse strut into knuckle arrangement and the inner CV boot had also popped off (missed at MOT!)

Pads are ordered; I'll pick them up tomorrow.
So I have to raid Bear's woodpile for an improvised axle stand, and find a plank so I don't dig up his drive with the jack.

Jacked it up to check this wheel bearing isn't shagged before I use it...

...although I've just decided that I CBA to go into the office tomorrow, so I needn't have rushed.

collected the pads, and replaced these:

from the state of the back of the disc, that pad had been rusted in place for some time. It certainly wasn't easy to remove with the limited tools I have here.

I'll get new discs for it when I return home, as the pads cost twice as much as I would normally pay.
