better economy, slightly more speed (especially from a standing start ... usually less ratios on an auto) and free one-leg bench presses in traffic ...  ::)

i was forced to drive a nissan delivery around all day every day a few years ago and it was definately "other" - we just left it in 3rd all day long, from standing starts to motorway. fair play to nissan though it actualy lasted.

i think other refers to the rare 5 speed auto option that was on the last of the miggys

I have both manual and auto, the miggy is auto, the cav is manual, i keep stalling the cav cos i forget when i get to junctions and lights  :-[

big engines and autos work well, never got on with small engines with autos though, just doesn't seem to work well

Yeah, was going to mention the 5sp auto.

Anything with less than 2.0 litres should be a manual. SWMBO had a 1.0 Micra auto for a while. Pitiful little thing it was. And a few years ago I had a manual Cav' which was great, but the auto version that I used from time to time was a waste of time.

I love auto's particularly as I potentially spend a lot of time stuck in traffic.

Auto Gearboxes definitly take the fun out of driving...plus with a manual you feel alot more involved and in control...Why have a RWD car then an automatic gearbox?!?

Auto boxes do get worse over time, where as manual gearboxes stay pretty much the same for the majority of their life (imho).  Also as someone mentioned, you getter better performance and economy on a manual.

The Omega is the first car I have owned with an Auto box.  At first I hated it (the auto box not the car) but now have got used to it.  I would not say that I prefer the Auto but at least I don't keep searching for a peadle with my right foot any more or keep reaching for the gear stick when coming off the motorway!

Oooo Auto V Manual

My Meega Is Manual And My Volvo 480 is Auto.

Took me ages to get used to a manual again after my Auto Box Can say which I like I like them both as much as each other.

But an Auto is far batter for bad Traffic and hill starts :)
