2.5TD Oil Level Low
« on: 28 April 2015, 14:09:56 »

Hi,

Oil level is fine but dash keeps telling me otherwise...  Is it the Oil Pan Sensor unit (minimum oil level) that i need to change to rid me of this fault?

Yes it sounds like it. I've had it where an oil change has resolved the sensor issue.

You could try wash the sensor out, but as it's a sump off job, I'd fit a known working/new one.

Ok cool, thanks...

So is it a drain oil situ to change the sensor? Best do an oil/filter change at the same time then?

I once bought a sump gasket for a 2.5 td but never fitted it I,m sure I still have it. bear in mind if you remove the sump. it will save you a few bob.  :y

I have a feeling that there is something underneath (sub-frame?) restricting sump removal on the TD. As I have only had mine 16 years, I cannot be expected to know. ::) Seth will however. :y

As it is raining at present, I am not going out to check underneath, but will later if Seth is still not up. ::)

i had the sump off the green one i think but i did undo the engine mountngs and lift the engine on the crane ;D then had to reach inside the sump to undo the  oil pick up pipe,  :-X and that was fun putting it all back together, it had a cracked sump so want ed it off to weld up, tis doable but awkward :-[

This is NOT a sump off job . Remove 3 screws and you can remove the sensor. Or unplug it... its expensive to replace 60bhp or more. mine is stuck in short curcuit. but no gunk inside sensor or oil pan...

i may be wrong but i thought the actual sensor was attached to the oil pan so oil pan has to come off. i stand corrected if it isn,t so. i have an oil sensor but cant remember if i got for the 2.5td or a 2.2dti .
