OmegaProject.co.uk - A gallery for all?
« on: 01 November 2007, 20:05:24 »

I have been thinking of turning OmegaProject.co.uk into a gallery site for us all to use for quite some time, too long in fact.  8-)

I'd be using CPG gallery software or similar, which would allow members to upload there own pics, descriptions, comments etc.

Both Jim and myself think it would make it easier to display your pride and joy, plus it would be a bit more structured and centralised than the gallery affair we have on the forum at present.

Features would include, thumbnails, latest additions, most popular etc.

Video clips could also be hosted.

It would of course be free to sign up, and image/video hosting would also be free.  ;)

Thoughts appreciated.  ::)

Just a thought, do you have disk/bandwidth limits?

We do have a server with some disk space on, and virtually unlimited bandwidth, but I have never got around to investigating decent software for image hosting.

Sounds interesting. Would it be part of the forum in any way or if separate could the two run a link?

I'm up for it, because I can't update my thread in the gallery to update my pictures as it's locked out after 24 hours, and if I do update the pictures they are spread around the thread on diffirent pages :y

Current disk capacity: 508.3 GB.  :y
Bandwidth availability: 9976 GB per month.  :y

With regard to software, CPG seems a good bet.

It would be seperate in respect of it being hosted on my own completely different server, under the domain omegaproject.co.uk

Obviously it would be up to the Admins here if they wanted to provide a link to the gallery or not, i would however be providing links back here as, in essence, it would be the same users from here that would be using my site, presumably with the exact same user id's. I assume folk would also link to their own personal gallery from their sigs etc.

Don't worry, translated...

Space for content, ie pictures and videos = 508.3 GigaBytes  :y

Bandwidth, being the amount of information i can serve per month = 9,976 GigaBytes  :y

Only 12 votes so far.  :-/

So it looks like i should have plenty space if i'm only hosting pics for 12 people.
