« on: 30 July 2007, 23:03:50 »
Just a quick "Thank you" for all the help over the ABS ECU .. all fixed and working well for the past week, so we are off to France tomorrow with the 'van on the back.

Hopefully actually get some piccies of the miggy to post on my return - amazing .. had it 6 years and not a single photo !!

Thanks again and I'll be back ( now you are stuck with me !!) to an excellent site .. boy am I learning a lot just lurking ....  around the 19th Aug

Prepare yourselves for more questions on front brake discs/pads and gearbox updates .. trying to persaude "her ladyship" that we should join you in Wales .. some resistance at the moment ....  "boys and their toys" is a recurring phrase !!!

Once again .. thanks .. we wouldn't be going without the help from here .. see you all later  :)

I had a Ford Granada Scorpio Mk 3 (2.9 V6) for 15 years .. absolutely brilliant towcar .. at 15 years old you can no longer get continental breakdown insurance so unfortunately it had to go as we holiday in France every year. Before that a standard 2.3 Granny for 6 years - good towcar but not as nice as the Scorpio - only replaced 'cos an idiot ran up the back and totalled it

As I hate 4X4's, love big comfortable powerful saloons, and want rear wheel drive for towing I have limited options, also due to the weight of the 'van I tow (1600Kgs) I will only tow with a vehicle of around 2000 kgs +/- a bit.. this left even fewer options ..boiled down to

BMW 5 series
Merc C Class
Omega

on the budget - at the time (6 years ago) this gave me a 6 year old Beemer, a 7 year old Merc or a 3 year old Omega.. and I found the Elite which had the same (or better in some cases) spec than the other 2...(especially the self levelling suspension) .... it became a no-brainer ... bought the miggy and have never regretted it.

Slightly slower away from the lights with the 'van on the back than the Granny was .... but from 30 upwards no comparison .. way more power, extremly stable and I get 30% better fuel consumption all round.

I am seriously considering replacing the current miggy with a newer one (2002-2003) simply while they are available with lowish miles not because of problems with this one, probably won't happen as once I like a car i tend to keep them 10-15 years, if I don't like them its 10-15 weeks !!

The miggy is a powerful, capable, comfortable armchair, with agro when you need it  :)

You are right  .. its unfortunate that whilst training you HAVE to expect/accept that there will be failings and just clean them up. It is MOST important not to confuse the dog with mixed signals, do not encourage by pads or chastise for "accidents" but praise, praise, and praise again the successes when they occur.

It is perfectly possible to actually teach a dog to "go", both versions, on command .. all Guide dogs are so trained... just think what would happen if a Guide dog suddenly decided to "perform" wherever it felt like it !!

Toilet training to this level actually only takes about 6-8 weeks if done thoroughly, but all parties involved MUST use the same commands / timings / rewards ..

I am now jealous .. we had 2 cockers .. first for 14 years , then second for 12, will get another when I retire and we both no longer work, as I think it unfair to leave a pup unattended for so long.

Enjoy  :)

The Boy got home at 03:30 ... 13 hours to do a 4 hour drive ... he got to Oxford no problems .. then A420 to Swindon .. got to outskirts to find the road blocked and had to go back to Oxford, A34 to M4 Newbury junction.. then to J16 and home ... one tired lad .. but at least he was safe.

We all went to Daughters Graduation .. was a good presentation... now setting up the party she knows nothing about .. we hope ... speak tomorow if the hangover alows  :)

Thanks to all for concern shown and advice

Directline and I fell out some while back ... I'm now with a company called Its4me ... do a google ... underwritten by Fortis ( a very large and well known underwriting group) and I'm very pleased with them.

When a very stupid young lady failed to notice that the lights were RED and that was in all probabliity why I was stopped, and she decided not to .. so doing a large amount of damage to the front of her clit with the towbar on the miggy .... and I got a new bumber and a boot respray... they were great .. all arranged by phone, courtesy car, and sorted in 2 weeks.

With Insurance you don't know how good they are until you have to claim ... my experience with its4me/fortis so far has been very good.....   and no .. I am not linked to them in any way this is a genuine recommendation not a sales pitch !!  :)

Now how did I guess that at gone half ten I would get that sort of answer !!!  ;D

Seems I'm not the only one who enjoys a beer .. but as my cambelt (yes and tensioners) was only changed 4000 miles ago perhaps I'm not entitled ....

I'll just have to stick to single malts tonight then .. :)
