General Car Chat / Helicoils
« on: 04 July 2016, 14:36:55 »
I have a couple of M6x1.0 female threads in the engine block of a generator that need repairing.
This seems a textbook helicoil application but I've never used one before. Any recommendations?

General Discussion Area / Another hero gone

Yesterday evening I came across a podcast that I'd saved months ago, and not got round to listening to, so I put it on. It was Eric "Winkle" Brown on desert island discs. I listened to it fascinated. Probably the most accomplished pilot we will ever know, and so much more. Present at the liberation of Belsen concentration camp. On the panel that interrogated Goering and Himmler, amongst others, following the 2nd world war. Survived over 1400 carrier deck landings, 11 aircraft crashes and 1 shipwreck. Pilot of 487 aircraft types. Despite this, a wonderfully modest and endearing man to listen to, in my opinion.

By some coincidence, he passed away today. I've been watching BBC news channel for the last 90 minutes and nothing has been said about this remarkable man. I heard about his passing on an internet forum. It's all about Boris and the EU.  >:(

Well, rest in peace, Eric.   :'(

Hi All,

I'm after a front headlamp levelling sensor please - preferably one where the linkage hasn't started to seize up!

Also, the securing clips for the panels above the front footwells - plastic "push in and turn 90 degrees" type. Some car kit fitting gorilla couldn't be @rsed to put them all back so I'm after 4 of these please.

Cheers,

Kevin

General Car Chat / Spring hose clamps - supplier?
« on: 16 July 2015, 14:55:27 »
I've had enough of jubilee clips. Does anyone know where I can buy an assortment of constant force spring hose clamps as used for the coolant hoses on an Omega out of the factory?

This sort of thing:

I have seen single clamps on Ebay, and assortments designed more for fuel hoses that don't really reach the larger end of the size spectrum needed for coolant hoses. Problem is, you need to select one that's the right size, so I'd like a box of assorted sizes really.

Fair play to them for trying something different, but it can't work, can it?
