Radio fuse blown now no volume
« on: 17 April 2007, 23:29:36 »

Recently when trying to jump start the Elite a friend of mine hooked up the jump starter pack live to earth and vice versa briefly...result is radio blew its fuse, this has now been changed (10 amp) and radio appears to work as in lights up and various radio channels are displayed...However theres no sound coming out as in its completely silent and the auto changer in boot seems to be lifeless, wont even eject the disk cartridge.

Checked main fuses and all seem fine except where on the fuse panel it shows No.4 as CD there's no fuse there, totaly blanked off so no fuse can be inserted either, that seemed a little odd....so basically is there any in line fuse that could still be blown so the auto changer cannot receive power and effect the volume.?

Lastly when pressing the CD button on head unit it was allowing the display to show it was searching for cd to play and now this will not work either...?

Previous to idiot blowing radio fuse everything worked as it should without any problems.

Radio is a standard Phillipp's with the 6 disk changer in boot....will get model number if needed but fairly sure its standard for the 1997 Elite (not bose).

Any thoughts would be gratefully received. :y

hmmm ... just a thought ... with yours being an elite (although you don't say what year) it'll have either a philips or bose setup (Is the changer philips or blaupunkt?) - which means a powered amplifier. Could be the fuse to that has gone too ... I've a feeling it's on a different one to the head unit ... according to the fusebox listing here yours has these relevant fuses:

4--10A CD Changer
6--10A Radio
12-20A Courtesy light, tunk lamp, hazard warning flashers, information display, radio
15-15A Reverse lamps, cigarette lighter, glove compartment lamp, automatic transmission, automatic level control system, cruise control, ventilation for rear door windows, seat and mirror adjustment, radio

and possibly also

29-20A Terminal 30. constant current for caravan/trailer (pikey optional fit, can be used for simple audio instals)

so check all of those  :y

Blimey that's given me something to go on.... :y

Sorry should have said the car is a 1997 (P plate) and its non Bose.....Philips head unit and im sure its a philips auto changer.

Now your gonna have to bare with me on this im afraid.... :-[

Fuses was checked and all appear to be OK...with the fuses listed below i assume if the fuse had gone then all of the related (Courtesy light, trunk lamp, hazard warning flashers, information display, radio) wouldn't work...its just ive pressed just about everything to see if it works and everything does with the exception of the interior light ???

Not sure if this makes any difference but ive unplugged the auto changer to see if this would make any difference to the radio and unsurprisingly made no difference at all.....is it possible by simply hooking up the battery jump starter the wrong way round to have done any serious damage electrically. :-?
