I do mean in the boot not inside the car, It has loads of air around it in there does it not :-/

The problem is that the fins on the heat sink of most amps are designed for the amp to be mounted vertically so the rising hot air from around the amp draws cooler air through the heatsink. If the amp is at the top of the boot and horizontal the cooling effect will be much reduced.

I'd keep an eye on the temperature and, if it gets excessive, wire up a 12v computer fan to blow air over the amp when it's on.
