Good community policing? Yes. Something to tie two officers up with? No. Do AgeUK not do a similar service? Genuine question, never dealt with them.

Agreed, but I'm sure that it was half an hour well spent ...... there'll be plenty of 'real' 999 cases that take a lot more time up

Nice to see some still care. :y

I'm lonely. If I dial 999, will they come round with a few beers and a curry? :-\ That'd be good Community Policing! :y

Genuinely lovely story.
Shall we divert 1% of the annual funding for youth schemes, skateboard parks, drop in centres, hostels, whatever aimed at helping young people who are perfectly fit and able to go out and do whatever they want, whenever they want, but choose to stay in and play xbox and blame 'the man' for everything... divert just 1% to the elderly, and try and give them a bit more.
And don't get me started on prisons... if we swapped round the budgets for prisons and care homes tomorrow the elderly would live in luxury and prisoners would live like..well... it'd be like being in prison!
Now I know why Daltry wrote the lyric 'I hope I die before I get old'

Thanks Mr Gonads :)
Police - must run at a 'profit' if it isn't cut the funding
Fire Brigade - must run at a 'profit' if it isn't cut the funding
NHS - must run at a 'profit' if it isn't cut the funding
Railways - must run at a 'profit' if it isn't cut the funding
Care Homes - must run at a 'profit' if it isn't cut the funding
Libraries - must run at a 'profit' if it isn't cut the funding
Coal and Steel - must run at a 'profit' if it isn't close them down, make thousands unemployed
Armed Forces - Haven't used that Harrier this week, I see? Let's throw it in the bin to save money!
Prisons - New PlayStations for all! These poor people came from broken homes... Their parents never loved them...they were victims of circumstances... these poor felons need rehabilitating, I mean, I ask you, what has a Police Officer, Firefighter, Nurse, Railwayman, Volunteer Carer, Librarian, Coal Miner, Steelworker, Soldier, Sailor or Airman ever done for this country?
Again, I applaud the kind nature of the Police for seeing the truth of the simple plight of this elderly couple. God knows how many hours a week your average copper would have free for such duties if someone up top said 'sod this paperwork, it's all red tape. New rule - get the bare minimum done, then get outside, and go and do good. Have a natter with kids on bikes, let them sit in you car and fire up the sirens, ask that bumbling old duffer who turns out was a Hurricane Pilot, Chat to that homeless guy who's an ex-guardsman' I don't blame coppers, I blame the system they/we are bound by.

Thats the trouble of making all of these institutions to run as a business instead of a service, which it was back in the day. Yes, it does need strong management to keep the costs down but that must be better than these tiers of middle management that we have at the moment.
