Quick hijack of this thread been offered a 2.2 with blown head gasket. 81K  is the water pump a likely cause? do the heads warp easily or is it a case of just a new gasket, pump and a good flush?

No the 3l has a larger diameter clutch plate than the 2.5l but both will fit the 3l has a larger surface area for friction.

Did they fit the correct clutch plate? if they fitted a 2.5 plate it might be slipping in your engine. I had a brand new 2.5 plate slipping on my cd so changed it to a 3l plate no further problems. :y

I thought the fuel pump ran on ignition on for a few seconds to pressurise the system before start up.

Had a problem with a v6 a few years back, had no power to pump at fuse but power out of relay so in frustration I linked a supply to pump fuse to start and move the car, after starting removed link and car continued to run had no problem after. :y

Front disconnects from door by twisting connector on door. Rear pull the grommet from body at b post the connector is just inside.

Front or back door. front unclips from inside not difficult, back is just a rubber grommet I think.

Hasn't effected my emissions at mot cost me 2p to do literally 2 x 1p pieces unbolted popped coins over holes and rebolted. Job done. :y

Spent hours with t cut after buying the car with no luck, failed mot on one light couldn't find second hand one cheap & quick so decided to try wet & dry if it didn't work wasn't loosing any thing anyway. Fine wet & dry lots of soapy water then finished off with t cut on a polishing mop worked a treat. if youv'e nothing to loose try it. :y
