Omega General Help / Re: 3.0 v6 Restarting After Fuel Run Out
« on: 08 February 2009, 19:01:12 »
Had a similiar problem with my v6 after getting it back from my neighbour after they ran out of fuel. They had  the aa out who told them that the fuel pump had gone, but I traced it to the pump getting no power. having checked the fuel pump relay was supplying power I found there was no supply to the fuse although the haynes manual shows its next inline so as a last resort I linked a live supply from another fuse just to start and move it. It started first time when i removed the link it continued running and I've never had a problem since. I don't know if there is a pressure switch somewhere which cuts the power if the pump runs dry but talking to a local mechanic hes had similiar problem when changing fuel filters.

Quick tip if your checking for air leaks use a spray can of easy start. Spray around suspect area if tickover picks up you found your air leak. :y

Omega General Help / Re: heater fan
« on: 25 October 2008, 19:59:32 »
Hi! Painter, has your car got air con or just heating, could possible be the fan speed resistor which is also near the fan. I had a poor connection on climate control switches which stop mine working.

Omega General Help / Re: EML on all the time

I mixed up two connectors on the air inlet once air temp sensor with some thing else (same plugs) could not figure what was wrong. this gave eml light on

I think the only difference in the two GM parts are the plugs on the end, one is male the other female i had to trim the outer casing off one to make it fit my early V6.

Had a similiar prob with my V6's both had same fault. the water pipe at the rear of the off-side head had holed but only seemed to leak when revving the engine if let to warm up at tickover it didn't seem to leak.

Omega General Help / Re: change 2.5 to 30ltr
« on: 08 October 2008, 22:10:50 »
I bought a chip from germany for a 3.0 ltr off ebay to run in my 2.5 after fitting 3.0 ltr cams I find it great. it also seems to cure the problem of coding the engine management as I run it in two different cars when the immobiliser flashes the EM. light and won't start.

I thought just swapping the ecu's will cause the immobiliser to lock out, you also need to swap the other parts from the immobiliser if I'm correct

That 30 ltr sounds a little large for the omega engine bay, there's a guy in one of my mags got a 27 ltr in rover, would love to see it once it's in. ;D on a more serious note I was led to believe that an auto block has a different casting than a manual but cannot be sure. Tom

Omega General Help / Re: key dont turn in ignition...
« on: 05 October 2008, 21:47:22 »
HI I,m new to this forum but I can help with this one.  You can remove the ignition barrel without removing the steering wheel, first you have to remove the shroud then using a bent wire about 20mm bent end stiff but not too large locate the release hole in the alloy housing (haynes manual will poss help to identify) put key in the barrel and turn whilst depressing pin through release hole, barrel should pop out. It's a little tricky but can be done. If you stip barrel and clean parts and grease lightly (I used silicone) & rebuild you may find when key is in the barrel some of the brass fingers are not pulled back into line with the barrel this is what stops it turning. if you file these so they are smooth you should have no further trouble till it wears again. refitting you just push it back into the housing until it clicks into place. but ensure you push the locking pin back thats inside the housing before push the barrel in. Tom
