Little Gmail story
« on: 11 July 2006, 16:25:54 »

We (work) were a little put out when Google announced this -as we had a product called Gmail, not very god but mainly an advertising device for EDI.

Enter your orders with this then email them to your supplier (who uses our software)

Our main product is called Gtrak and we have a few other items with G prefixed names.

If only we had bought the name at the time we would be laughing!

We called it GMail as it emailed orders to Gtrak

Its funny how things like that happen.

Working for Ericsson (formerly Marconi, GPT etc) you get used to it.

Imagine working for a company that gave away patents on the transmission of pictures over telephones because it was not seen as important or abandoned mobile phones because the world wasn't ready. We bought a USA ATM manufacturer (Fore Systems) because Juniper (who were the alterntaive purchase) did IP networks and they were never going to take off.

And to top it all we gave BT a new drop of exchange software with 1471 functionality in it for free.....BT make a million a day thanks to re-gaining lost calls via this.
