May Volvo rip as they've gone full Milk-float.

.......that will never go faster than 112 MPH. :-X

The nanny state is alive and well.
Can't see the Plod spec cars being limited...

It's a cracker(  2.8 Ghia X) deposit paid will sort it all out when we get back from our cruise , lovely old lady to deal with , I've had one of these years ago but only a 2.3GL .
That apparently needs a full restoration...

Am I the only person who is confused  ???

That sounds like a prefacelift colour :-\

Stemo is right, nice, unmolested original cars are rare.

With the screen, scuttle and dash out, that panel can theoretically be replaced, it's bonded into a channel in the firewall.

 ......

sigh ...... bulkhead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The two terms aren't mutually exclusive.

no they're not .... Americans have firewalls, wristpins, rocker panels etc etc etc ..... we have bulkheads, gudgeon pins & sills etc etc etc
https://aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/78397/in-aircraft-construction-what-is-the-difference-between-a-firewall-and-a-bulkhe#:~:text=So%20in%20a%20nutshell%2C%20a,the%20rest%20of%20the%20plane.

Obviously that's wrong too presumably... ::)

With the screen, scuttle and dash out, that panel can theoretically be replaced, it's bonded into a channel in the firewall.

This channel is what eventually leads to the rot as it collects dirt and debris that, in turn, holds moisture. The panel is only powder coated so it's not particularly protected.

Obviously noone is going to go to those lengths to fix the problem properly, so any repair, however well intended, is going to be a bit of a halfarsed bodge.

According to a previous  member of crew being interviewed the vessel had encountered several mechanical problems in the past, probably well past its serviceable life & poor maintenance wouldn't suprise me in the slightest, hope whoever owns it has decent insurance for all involved , I can see this incident opening up a whole can of worms.
That smacks of a disgruntled former employee rather than anything meaningful.

The ship is registered in Singapore and is owned and operated by Singapore companies and it's been regularly inspected with minimal compliance issues, the most recent one was in New York late last year iirc.

A Catera in Europe is unlikely to have had that recall work done as it was a US recall and relates to ridiculous belt intervals. Change the belt kit every 4 years/40k miles and they're unlikely to fail.

But that said, if it has been more or less looked after it should have had the belt kit replaced a few times.

I think Cateras are released only in US.
It would have potentially been available to order through Cadillac dealerships in Europe, but most likely to have been shipped to Europe by US military personnel stationed there.

The V6 mundano was either a 2.9 or 3.0 IIRC, so a bit disappointing.

2.5 24V Duratec V6, I believe. The godawful 12v V6s were dead and buried by then.
Butchered Mazda lump as seen in the Ford Probation.

The 2.8i Cologne was pretty handy in the Xr4x4, but that didn't weigh much over a ton. And with a 5 speed and LSD was pretty effective in the MK2 Granada too. >:D

The 2.9 24v was a totally different animal and with the weight advantage would keep a full fat Omega in check.

Omega General Help / Re: central locking
« on: 27 March 2024, 23:03:27 »
I have in the past tried to find out what the rules are, as far as a mot, if one doorlock  is not working with the remote.
Irrelevant as long as the door handle works inside and out. Removing the CL motors simply stops the remote control from operating the locks. As long as the key works in the driver's door, and ideally the passenger door (pre facelift had a lock cylinder on both sides. Retrofitting this to a facelift should be easy enough.

On a facelift saloon you may want to keep the remote access to be able to pop the boot from outside the car (irrelevant on pre facelift and estate as long as the key operates the mechanical lock), but this should still work even if the front door motors are removed. Easy enough to test.

Whilst experimenting, leave at least one window open just in case.

MK1/2 Mundeo had the 2.5. the 3.0 didn't appear until the Mk3 and was a similar performer to the C25xe ;)

Can't speak to the other options as 9 of my first 12 cars were Fords (7 Granada MK2/3 and 2 Sierras) the other three were a 1.6 Pug 405, a 2.0 Renault 25 and a 1.3 Polo :-[
