Well, not done anything really to the Disco since I bought it in July. So today I had a looky see at what work requires doing to it AND what  I  want to do to it.

So,

New brake discs & pads all round
New Shocks & springs
Poly-bush kit
New steering box (recon)
New gearbox output shaft/transfer box input shaft
New oil seals (or should I leave the Disco to self preserve 
New top end i.e. rocker shafts, cam, tappets, timing chain........
New sunroof seals
The alarm / Spider binning  and replacing
Good servicing all oils replacing.
UNDERSEAL it, or just use 10/40 (see above) 

Then I can get the LPG done 

That'll keep me going for  bit  then I got to sort out the bloomin electrics, had a bit of a go today got central locking back now, interior lights next along with Dash lights.

First 3 items should only take a weekend, steering box I'm planning 2 days as its a bit fiddly and I'll have to unbolt & re-position the air-con generator temporarily. Gearbox / transfer box??? New territory, first need to see which transfer box I got. It may have to be removed yet 
Top end of engine a few days, working on V8's is easy once all the pipework & electrics are outa the way. Only things I ain't looking forward to is the electrics, turned the air blue a few times today and I'm no autospark. The spider is to the Disco as the powersounder is to the Omega

Sounds just like an Omega repair list  Be interesting to see how many swear boxes you fill you get on

Cam removal on the V8 is interesting and it and the hydraulic followers will be goosed, get a hardened timing chain and gears as they stretch quickly with the standard ones. It's worth a mild cam upgrade to if you can stretch to it

When I start I'll be making a photo gallery of progress (or not)  Then I'll have to work  out how to stick em on 'ere!

The early Discovery inherited a lot of it's design from the Range Rover. I have had the gearbox in and out of my 1972 Range Rover several times.

The 4 speed gun-tractor gearbox in the early Range Rovers weighs at least as much as the engine. I did drop the gearbox once without removing the engine (but only once) I find it easiest to lift the engine out first.

I don't know if the same applies to the Disco
