Omega insurance renewal
« on: 05 September 2006, 23:06:49 »

Got some good news. My insurance renewal is cheaper than last year  :o
I've got 6 points on my licence (2 x SP30), the car is not garaged and I'm in a London postal area. My wife is insured to drive it as well.

Here's how it goes:
Basic premium with 9 years NCD: £341.25
NCD protection: £66.15
Uninsured loss recovery: £22.05
Total: £429.45

..and I can pay it monthly

Last year the total was £464.10.

I know it's probably more than the car's worth ( ;D), but I think it's a good quote.

Who's the company I hear you ask?

Vauxhall Insurance, believe it or not.

Street parking in London, full-comp, started at £900 and went down to £600 over the past 5 years. Funny that, when I bought the car 5 years ago Vx quoted me... £2,300, while Tesco were cheapest at £900. Should give Vx a call again I guess.

My other half is also insured to drive my car BUT interestingly I was told by a broker that this actually reduced your premium.

Also Tesco allow business use as standrad which is good for me, other insurers wanted extra for business use.

On the downside, the access is high (£250) and I have no NCD protection, RAC was extra, and curtesy car was also extra which I didn't take.

Oh, and they also give you 3rd-party-only cover when driving other vehicles as long as it is done so with the permission of the owner (:)), I know some others do this as well but not all.

I found that Vx insurance was about £100 more than Churchill.

I tried the AA, they came back with Churchill @ £80 more than I was already paying.

Tunnie, you say you've got an SP 30 that's due to expire thuis year. One thing I find really annoying is that points get effectively wiped off your licence after three years (i.e for totting up purposes), but insurance companies still count them for five. My first SP 30 is four years old!

I don't think you can get it removed from your licence for five years though, so even if the points don't count it's still on your licence, I think :-?

Nearly £400 fully comp with 5years ncd with breakdown cover and the wife but she did have a accident 3 years ago so i was obviously penalised for it.

I change insurance companys almost every year to keep the cost down.

Admiral.  £300.  100 years NCB.  Protected NCB.  All the other 'bits'.  Includes Mrs H.

Speeding endorsements can be removed after 3 years by paying the appropriate fee.  But I agree, it's not right that insurance companies go back 5.

This is correct, hence why mines going back in the next couple of weeks to have 3 SP30s removed (2 just 3 points fixed penalty the third 28 day ban but no points!!)

I realy have no idea how you lot get your insurance so cheap!!

My 2.5 CDX is on limited millage policy (5000 miles), after searching loads of companies i managed to get it down to £350 with protected no claims

My MV6 is on a full business use 35000 mile policy and costing me £480ish!!

Both are fully comp

Both were taken out when i had to declare all the SP30s, at least this time when the MV6 comes up itll only be 1!!

Seeing as ive had my own insurance since the day i was 17 and never (touch wood) had a claim its a rip off.

I  found Vxl direct realy cheap the first year you sign up with them then the premium goes thro the roof, im guessing they hope your too lazy to change!!
