Doctor Gollum:
Presumably the companies running these cars cannot reclaim any expenses if they're charged at staff homes... Much better to claim the tax relief on fuel that the company actually pays for.  ;)

Buying a new hybrid as a private customer makes very little sense as you don't get decent discounts and you don't get tax incentives offered to company buyers.

As for 129 mpg, outside of a contrived test, who actually manages to get any where near the advertised figures?

39 mpg from a spread of 2+ tonne SUVs running pissy little engines is actually pretty good. Remove the batteries and they will probably manage 45 mpg ::)

Kevin Wood:
So, the government has heaped subsidies and encouragement on a technology that turns out to be a complete crock? Fancy that! ::)

Have they done a better or worse job that it's only taken a few years to become obvious to everyone, rather than two or three decades like normal?

ronnyd:
Obviously just bought to get the subsidies? :-\
