Title: Very strange day...
Post by: Doctor Gollum on 08 January 2020, 22:09:53
Given the events in Iran not 24 hours ago, the lead story in the news was...

Harry and Megan. I mean, I'm sure that they are lovely people and whilst their announcement is royally unprecedented, (pun intended),  but wtf ???

Perhaps someone accidentally showed Harry the results of his DNA test?

I hope that with two monarch's funerals in quick succession, the necessary overhaul of the royal family will happen soon.

Megan cant adjust to what it takes to be a high profile member of British Royalty, although I imagine she is happy with the title, perks and privilege that go with it. She has probably told Harry she will far cough and take the kid with her unless he does things the way she wants.
He also has bad memories of his mothers life at the hands of the media and her abandonment by the Royals and British establishment, which might have made it easier for him to agree to it.

What was the story?
They are going to become financially independent, split their time 50/50 between here and North America and be less important generally. Oh and they released an official statement before they told Granny...

Its certainly their right to do so, but the way they went about it was petulant and crass.

There might have been an accident of some sort had they told Granny first.  :-X

Were they ever really royals? He is the spawn of a jumped-up nursery nurse with loose knicker elastic and she is a half-caste american social climber!

Yes I'm sure they'll do quite well if they stick it on Airbnb!  :y

Hence my original question... Surely the potential precursor to WW3 ought to have been the only news of the day ???

I could never understand what Edward 8th  saw in the manipulative scrawny flat-chested Mrs Simpson. I think she dominated him, probably much like Megan dominates Harry.

Trying to get the royal family to change with the times is much like trying to get a super tanker to turn.......very slow. Surprisingly however they didn't put up much resistance to Harry marrying a half-caste girl from the wrong side of town. :)

Piers Morgan is typically forthright in his views on the matter in the Daily Wail today.  ;D

I don't think he likes her very much....  :-\  ::)

Oh dear, after her divorce to Mr Redneck, instead of becoming an anonymous Mrs Redneck II, she got her claws on a Prince & that involves  being a public figure & she can't stand the heat & wisely gets out of the kitchen. Being married to a price & having a sprog will save her from from having to take a job as a shelf stacker or barcode swiper at Walmart or burger flipping & trash bin emptying at Maccy D, well until IMV they divorce & she becomes the obscure Mrs Redneck III with her tin mansion on the local trailer park.

IMO it's no loss to Queen or country.

much like Megan dominates Harry

She could dominate me, any day.

she becomes the obscure Mrs Redneck III with her tin mansion on the local trailer park.

Pretty sure she was worth a fair wedge before she got together with either, so unlikely to end up in a trailer park - she can always go back to acting..

99% of actors & actresses earn less than the minimum wage. The 1% are generally household names & before Harry met Sally Megan I can't recall any of her films, TV shows or Broadway reviews, but then again I'm not a big fan of the visual arts, so you will have to enlighten me with a few links to them.

And nor could my parents and grandparents generation.  They were very angry about it, as no doubt many are now over this recent development, although Harry has little chance of ever becoming King anyway.

Funny though how this has all happened as, rightly, DG points out as we are currently perhaps witnessing a precursor to WWIII.  Edward's departure was just two years before WW2 commenced.  A warning of a repeat of history? ::) ::) :D :D ;)

She was a lead character in the show 'Suits', reportedly paid $50k per episode, so $450k p/a. Slightly more than minimum wage, even in that Capitalist hell-hole America.

Sounds like a fair old wedge of Wonga, but didn't the cast of Friends get £1,000,000 for each episode.

Imagine what they would earn if they could act. :)

Her divorce settlement will be a tidy sum and should keep her out of the trailer parks.  ;)

I think Megan is no more than an opportunist. She saw the opening and went for it.

..........which is pretty much what Harry did. ;D

No doubt, as the Royal family are of German origin and it was not unusual to witness Nazis salutes in pre-war Britain.  Most were ignorant as to what the Nazis really were.

This event has always left me cold, but that is not in context of 1938 when the Nazis seemed OK:
