Stick a set of 15" wheels and low profile tyres on it ;)

The man raises a fair point  :y Smaller wheels are a very headache-free way of improving accelleration.

Monaros have a different PCD, not sure how that would affect the discs. Perhaps they'd just slip straight on, no probs, but actually theres 4mm of difference, or something stupid like that!?

Almost definite that LC front discs will go straight on, though.  :)

i can give you a step-by-step guide in taking the climate unit out of the dash (though im sure there is a how to on here somewhere, so im probably redundant) the only tricky thing is getting the stereo out -

It might be worth explaining to the stereo fitters the problem, ask them to take it out for you (unless you have the right tools) then you can go home, have a cuppa, take out the offending bit of the dash. Its only screws from here-on in.

Then you can check the plugs/sockets at the back of the cc panel. It does sound logical that that's the problem.

thought the engine mounts were silly-cone filled, would be kinda cool to think the wishbones are too, but never disected them. I'll have a slash in the scrapyard, to see.

After I've had a slash i'll probably cut up some suspension bushes too  :y

Please don't read this as me trying to take business away from anyone, but you can refurb them yourself, and they are suprisingly easy to do.

As I say, I'm not trying to take sales from anyone. If someone asked me to to it for them, I'd direct them to these guys on ebay instead. They know what theyre doing more than I!

The only reason I mention it is I found a broke one in a scrap yard, got it working again, sold it for fifteen quid, i think! And I was going to bin it!  :y

Thanks for that, young Turk!

So chipping appears to cure this annoying problem, too? Ive heard of two, a 'chip' in the traditional sense, and a kind of 'plug in' affair.

So what's the pros/cons of these, then?

Basically a good tip is to not take it to a main dealer!  :y

Sadly the cheapest quote is rarely the best, nor does paying over the odds guarantee a top job, either.

Pins!

And if you have your rear brakes to bits its worth uprating the handbrake to later type drum retaining pin, by the way.

I think that worked because they were already programmed to the car - they just had dead batteries. So a 'foreign' key cannot be programmed in that way. Fairly sure you need a techie to do it. But, yes Kinplym, in certain circumstances it will work  :)

Are you doing the uprated mod on the handbrakes, too? That's what the 'bits creating a groove' things about.

They fall apart, but Vauxhall changed the design in '99 (or thereabouts) after using the same rubbish shoe design for thirty years  ::)

Rotating, hitting, levering etc will eventually work. Have faith! And strength, that helps too.  :)

Ah! Raised an issue that will never be resolved, there. To grease or not to grease wheel studs/nuts?

Personally never had a problem as my wheels are coming off / on on an almost weekly basis!

The trick is, as said earlier, NEVER do them up with anything but your own strength..and always pull upward to tighten. That way in the cold and rain when you have a puncture you can always get them undone.

Don't mean to get off topic, by the way. Have you tried a tyre fitters? Honestly, theyve got all the gear, its their job, after all.

Oh, or park down a dodgy street, let the local 14-year-olds loosen the wheels for you. I think most kids today are fairly proficcient in the removal of alloy wheels.  :D

You might even find a nice mechanic who will just say 'gimme a minute til the boss has gone' and he'll whip it off for you..

To be honest its not the most insurmountable problem in the world. All you're missing is the key, most places you could get the stud off have already been mentioned. Main dealer, Garage, local motorfactor, tyre fitters, etc. Just dont let some cowboy go near it with an angle grinder. There are some truly thick people out there.

Omega General Help / Re: brakes sticking
« on: 01 July 2009, 01:06:18 »
Yep, that's it. Can't add anything to the sound advice already given.

Fairly standard solution, really. If it's sticking....loosen it!! Get them calipers moving freely, and get them pads snug, without being loose/rattly. As said, coppergrease is the thing.

Thing is with brakes and other 'oilybits' once you've had them off once, you should always be thinking of the next guy that'll be working on them...and that could be you!

Have an afternoon in the sun tinkering, you'll get them working good as new sooner than you think.
