Yep.....I remember that.  It was abolished in the nineties.

It was called MIRAS. 'Mortgage interest relief at source'..... :y

30 years ;D

 Thirty years is a long time. If you worked harder you'd only need a 10 year mortgage. :) ;)

I already pay quite enough tax  :P

In my experience wealthy people pay little tax. Tax such as VAT on petrol and food hits the poor far more than the rich.

I already pay quite enough tax  :P

In my experience wealthy people pay little tax. Tax such as VAT on petrol and food hits the poor far more than the rich.
There is no VAT on food.

Some items are VAT exempt........plenty of others are not. :)

In the 1980's, I understand that my dad got tax relief on his mortgage, while also being NT coded (not normally resident for tax purposes) - so he actually got a cheque back from the revenue every year.  :y
