General Discussion Area / what can be done
« on: 09 September 2015, 00:32:12 »
I & several others in & around the local area have spotted a Red Agilia being driven by a nutter.
He thinks nothing of driving against the traffic  & to the right of keep left signs. on pathways & across private land & the local park. The park bit really got my wild up >:(. My little JR nearly got squished & the local kids ran for cover. as he drove  back past me very close I got a good look at him
Theres no number plates on it, so I assume he`s nicked it. I followed him down into Pompey last evenin on my bike , but he sussed me & turned right against the traffic on a large roundabout & I lost sight of him
Must admit the smilin liittle F### will connect with my right fist if I can catch up with him first.

Gettin around to sortin my cam-belt & waterpump

Here`s a pic of the set up as it been for the last 6 years & 23k miles.  ::)

Just spot the lug on the waterpump, so by my reckoning it`s been sitting in the wrong place for 6 years ??? This was fitted before my ownership by a garage in Purbrook.
The inside of the front lid is covered in a fine black dust from the old gates belt.

General Car Chat / Me being nosey again
« on: 01 September 2015, 00:18:10 »
Took the mad terrior for his usual walk tonite & he insists on taking his teddy bear with him  ::)
spotted a group of lads lunch time with the bonnet up on a mk4 astra. They`re still at it 9 pm tonite ;D
I drft across the road & get closer to the car & can hear a loud ticking noise ???
Lots of effin & jeffin & head scratchin, " that don`t sound right mate" says I.  tattooed boy looks close to tears :( He`s wavin his arms around & nearly kickin off at the mechanic puttin his sockets away. I notice a discarded notched belt on the driveway. "New cambelt time is it"  "Yer but I must have got the timing out, cos it sounds awful" Tattooed lad is now revin the tits off the car in a rage.
I get the boy to talk me thru his routine, seems the last thing he did after turning the engine thru 2 revolutions is to slacken off the belt tensioner bolt & re-adjust the tension again.
"Have you re-checked everything again then  ???" No is the answer, with the work complete she`s back on her wheels & everyone is pissed off. Did he re-torque the tensioner bolt ........he can`t remember doing this. I tell the boy Years ago I had a cambelt tensioner fail on a 1.6 twin cam astra & got exactly the same loud ticking noise, as the tensioner tried to hammer itself apart.
Maybe a loose tensioner bolt would give the same effect :-\
woof said the dog as his Mrs stood at the doorway & told us all she was just off to bed ;)

Looks as if the UK  insurers have been spotting a few porkies ;D

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/insurance/motorinsurance/11803437/Driver-database-helps-uncover-212000-car-insurance-lies.html

I still say more info should come our way from the insurers re. car repair histories.
I`d like to tap in the reg of a car & quickly see how smashed up it got over it`s lifetime.

Omega General Help / STEERING BOX QUESTION
« on: 10 August 2015, 00:45:38 »
Peering down onto the top of the steering box is a small adjuster pin & locknut.
I`ve noticed over the last few weeks some oil seeping from this area.
I`ve cleaned the threads of the pin with isoprop, took several goes of running  the locknut up & down while holding the adj pin in place  & hit it with some thread loc & tightened the locknut down in place.
This seems to have stopped the oli seeping by.
I haven`t dare unwind the the adj pin or try & run the locknut fully up past the pin.
The question I have is what seals up this gubbins in the normal way. ??? an O-ring maybe but where is it located ??? anyone else come across the same problem

General Car Chat / I`m getting this idea
« on: 14 July 2015, 23:23:45 »
that I want to reoaint the roof on my rare silver car.  :D

She`s not worth anything now I know, but having flung the best part of £400 at her for the mot.
I`m keeping her with just 45.321 miles on the clock she`s my baby so there.
but what colour, my Mum had a 2 tone consul dluxe with a sort of pale blue roof & a dark blue body.
Bloody silver what will go with that ??? I need someone with computer skills on changing the colours about  :y Swmbo says I`m bonkers & need to eat more fruit. Nana yellow  ??? Black maybe.

General Car Chat / Seems like a good idea
« on: 10 July 2015, 00:22:57 »
So in the US it looks as if dealers are compelled by law to cough up information regarding the cars repair history  :y

  http://www.ncdoj.gov/Consumer/Automobiles/Disclosing-Car-Damage.aspx

This is a step in the right direction, so what do we get in the UK to protect the buyer who`s about to hand over his hard earned money ???  Insurance cat rating on a V5 if you happen to request a car report or if the dealer is honest & tells you.

I`ve seen it around on a couple of occasions recently & this thing is seriously quick.
I was on my bike last week & decided to tag along behind for part of the way. He can out pace most contenders. The only problem must be the ride at low speeds over bumps etc. I think you can see this in the dashcam clip.
