SpaceX have annouced a launch date of February 6 at 1:30 pm EST for the demo flight  of their Falcon Heavy  :)

If like me, you`ve watched this company over the last few years perfecting the unique landing caopability of the first stage rocket; this next launch will land the first stage & both of it`s boosters.

The CEO Elon Musk has announced the dummy payload will be his Tesla sports car.
The final stage, with the tesla onboard; will power up to break free of earths gravity & the planned orbit around the sun will take it as far out as Mars  :y

They test fired the vehicle on the pad the other day & this thing is huge

Isn’t falcon heavy three falcon rockets strapped together? It will be a neat trick if those boosters land safely back on earth. Elon Musk is very eccentric, but brilliant nonetheless.

Musk has admitted that the original concept of an easily adapted falcon 9 first stage, for the heavy lift rocket & boosters; has required far more time & funding to perfect.
This launch is about 5 years overdue & the first stage is far heavier then anything else they`ve so far managed to land.
It`s all privately financed, so I guess the launch might literally make or break it   ;D
