Quite Chuffed
« on: 18 November 2019, 22:12:18 »

MOT booked in today at 12.00 at my usual place ..been going there for years.

Omega passed with no advisories for the 8th straight year ...MOT tester said its a credit and a pleasure testing a car that's looked after,as he sees 4/5 year old cars that fail on many things...his only complaint is he never makes any money out of me !!

Heres to another year of hopefully trouble free mileage

Well done. It's amazing how some of them seem to be virtually rust free.

Thanks Guys...yes its always a concern each year when that time comes around and you wonder ..will it/wont it and how much is it likely to need spending on it .

Just glad I picked a good one all them years ago after spending about 8 months searching for the right model/colour/spec...Looks like my 1k purchase all them years ago from a back street dealer in Dunstable paid off and the money invested in it has ben well spent.Hope I will be saying the same again this time next year

Congratulations!
I am sure many members envy you, I do for one. Have you done much preservation work on it in the past, spraying inside sills, etc.

the car was too old when he got it for that to have any worthwhile effect. It needs to be done when new, and repeated frequently. Who does that, when they're unlikely to get the benefit?

As Nick says Terry...I accepted that it would last as long as the rust stayed away which to be fair has been ok todate.Have now a few marks/scabs visible on rear arches but that's cosmetic now and just keep things clean and remove as much much as I can.

Parts when fail or are near get replaced so its just maybe it is just a lucky example that gets used everyday and I tend not to think too much about the costs involved as its miles cheaper than any newer alternative which wouldn't be half as good.

I expect the day will arrive, probably sooner than later now, that its end will arrive but until then I will keep driving it and enjoying the pleasure.

I agree with you. I only have one 20 year old Omega left, and when that fails MOT that will go too. Yet members here  report MOT testers applauding the condition of their cars, which must be 16 years old by now. Were their cars unusually well made?

Andrew's car passes inspections for several reasons:
He doesn't play at routine maintenance, but does the whole job in one go.
He doesn't cheap out on parts, see above.
He uses the car as a tool for work, so it's used frequently. This is probably the most important variable for longevity
He's used the same MOT station for years(same one I do), and they know what to expect.

I've presented a lot of scruffy looking cars for MOTs, and had similar comments: it looks shit, but is better than a lot of shiny cars we see.
