Having spent all yesterday preparing the Omega for its annual MOT the good news it has passed today and no advisories.

Not bad for a 1998 car.

The Renault is a great all rounder and dustbin and is used regularly to take rubbish (family heirlooms) to the tip.

Plus there are no leather seats and door cards to scratch.

Nothing to do with my Omega's but I managed to get the wife's old 1999 Renault clit through it's MOT with no advisories. Well chuffed!!

Also noticed that the MOT paperwork has changed its style again (still on A4 paper but with new format)

I too have had a wiring break in the loom around the near side boot hinge. (boot central locking stopped working)

First attempt at a repair soon failed again at the joint where I had soldered the wires together.

As you have suggested, for my second attempt, I spliced in a longer set of wires so that the solder joints are no where near to the area of flex.

12 months on and no failure as yet.

I have done this job on my S Type (1999 3.0Se) a few years ago.

As I recall I used the various sized sockets and vice method to remove and then refit the new lower bush.

I think the bush is not a simple solid rubber type but has some form of "articulation". You have to be careful not to pinch the rubber boots that protect the bush.

Just looking at a spare refurbed solenoid I recall the following:

I guess you have driven out the two roll pins at the connector end?

I also removed the white connector (to the locking mechanism) at the other end of the solenoid.

I use small screw drivers to open up the outer black body and then insert thin plastic pieces to keep them apart.

The solenoid should then pull out of the outer black body.

Look at the "Repairing a central locking motor" by Kevin Wood in the Maintenance Guides section.

Over the years I have used this guide to refurbish several central locking micro-switches.

As I recall both micro-switches are the same and I sourced them from RS Components.
They are described as DB2 type and mine have the code 290-0463. 

The micro-switch fixing points are slightly different but they are easily adapted to fit.

The hardest part is extracting the central locking motor from the door!

I have started using red rubber grease on the caliper sliders on my cars after years of using copper grease.

It doesn't effect the rubber covers, has not deterioated like copper grease over time and has remained stable with high temeratures.

Probably the HBV (heater bypass valve).

I had the exact thing happen with my 1999 Omega a few years ago. I also tried oil, grease on the mechanism but the problem kept occurring.

It was quite frightening and extremely dangerous (oncoming traffic etc)

In the end I bought a new mechanism from my local Vauxhall dealer and this cured the problem.

If you are handy with the spanners etc it is a relatively simple swap.

Replaced a HBV. A lot easier when the scuttle and windscreen wiper mechanism are removed.

Took the Omega 2.5 Elite for it's annual MOT today.

Another pass with no advisories and another change to the MOT paperwork. Result

If all the connecting rods are in place you may have to look at the central locking motor.

There is a great write up in the "Maintenance Guides" section.

Go to page 4 and look for "Repairing a central locking motor" by Kevin Wood.

He also gives details on how to get them out as well.

I think I have refurbished all my front door locking motors om my two Omegas over the years using this guide.
