Post by: -=[SpE[C]NaZ]=- on 06 April 2011, 23:00:27
Hi guys... as I wrote to newbie section about my luvly car... (anyway sorry about wrong post)

I bought Vauxhall Omega 2.5 EcoTec Elite (full package)  and I already have a problem... when i take a ride in city. temperature goes up really fast and hits 100 C  then big fan starts and temperature drops to 95 and then again goes to 100  etc etc....  when I stop at red light.  Oil lamp start flashing. when I ride again it stops flashing, if I stop it starts again.  what could be wrong? sorry guys, I'm not good at engines.... Sad but I really don't want to scrap...that car   :-[  sorry for not using search... but i'm trying to get replies asap because tomorrow I'm going to mechanic. some said that could be a head gasket. but water from cooling system dont go anywhere.. and it's only 85k mileage.

check the fuss in the fuse box next to the battery, there is a large amp fuse that controls the fan speeds in there, also you could change the fan switch on the right hand side of the radiator about half way down.
this switch also controls the switching of the fans from normal speed to full speed.
also check also that the fans do run at all.

By the way where are you located.?

Unless the car has not had the coolant levels kept to a 50/50 mix there is only a possability that the H/G has gone but failure is very rare on the V6 engine
Presssure testing the cooling system does not always show up a leak so dont just change the gaskit untill uyou have done a lot of checks first
Pm darth loo knee and he will give you more advice or ask him to look at it. he knows his omega's inside out. :y

Loss of coolant , missfire water in cylinder bore, exessive steam from the tail pipe. Some white smoke is normal.
Cam belt , get it changed asap or it might let go and then you will have a bill repair bill. They are to be changed every 40,000 or 4 years Without fail. if no history of when it was last changed get it done soon. :o

quick update about my problem, with obssesed mind about thermostat. I decided to change it... I went to my mechanic (very good guy btw)  we had some pizza and we started work... after all these exhausting actions, removing parts... we removed cover of thermostat....and...there was no thermostat AT ALL! my mechanic's theory: head gasket... my theory: I'm so desperate....

so basicly previous owner had some serious problems with engine. he ripped thermostat out and sold that car...to me. any ideas? advices?  :-/

This could be water pump not pumping water, couldn't it?  I think that's where I'd start.
