Hi

First off. I searched the forum on 'tint' and 'window' but I got no results pointing me to anything related to darkening of windows...

So my question.
Have you guys got experience in window tinting and that combined with legal allowance.

Problem: In Belgium the forward side windows may not be covered with anything not even a clear film.
No film, no paint.
Yet I want my front windows darkened...

How is the law in the UK regarding darkened windows?
Is it allowed?

Is for example the Monaro ever being delivered with naturally darkened glass?
(The way Vauxhall does with the Zafira nowadays...)

I'm asking since the Monaro is an Omega-derivate and thus probably carrying the same glass!
Which would get me a legal tint!

sorry but think all  omegafront windows are tint free in this country as standard too.

legally the front windows have been declared as no tint because they have to maintain a 70% minimum light transmission.
Normal glass in the omega (and any car) will not transmit 100% of the natural light through it. That's just how it works.

So say your normal glass transmits 85% of natural light.

In most cases, by you adding any kind f tint (that would be worth adding), you are going to go over that magic 70% line.

Now, the question is, how dark is too dark.
Some cars have a factory tint, and some manufacturers sold cars with too dark a window tint from the factory. Especially older ones!!

As for the uk omegas...i haven't seen one with a tint up front yet.

Omega has a very slight tint as standard does it not?. Certainly the 4 I've owned have. Sales brochures mention a green tint, but there is a black as well.

And the law in the uk is similar in that the front windows must have 70% transparency, although some films are allowed within that range, and plod carry meters to check at the road side. Do what you like with the rears behind the b pillar.

Yep, got pulled in at police checkpoint by Stansted Airport. They said my front window tints were too dark and said if I removed them immediately they wouldn't nick me. They didn't test them with a light meter but said if they did and it failed the test they would nick me which would mean a £60 fine per window plus 3 points on my licence. However, after unsuccessfully trying to "peel" the tints off at the roadside I showed them it would be impossible but I would get them removed as soon as I could. They finally accepted this and let me go. As I have to travel through the airport everyday, I thought it for the best to comply and eventually got the tints off using a heat gun and a blade, but had a horrible job of removing the glue residue.
I would say if you're going to go ahead with your tints, check they are completely legal first.

Try the American versions as they are big on the "Privacy Glass" options over there especially in California.

Yeah well, the fine  is already being paid.
But I thought that in the UK it was allowed...

anyway I will keep looking for an original coloured glass since I believe that makes it legal here.
I should check that 70% rule though

My tailgate and boot rear quarters are all limo tints - as done by TVP! 

Front windows are tint free tho  8-)
