Disability benefits
« on: 05 March 2013, 18:57:16 »

I have just watched a bit on BBC South regarding disability benefits.
The chap they were focussing on has had two strokes, four heart attacks, lost a leg, and a finger, faces more amputations, and is on morphine. I can only go on what is being reported, but under the new system, this fella is deemed 'fit to work'.
I cannot believe what is happening in this country.
Yes, there are benefit cheats.......but surely someone should be getting off their backsides and visiting these people. According to the wife of the bloke, she has requested visits, and according to DWP, it just ain't gonna happen >:(

As I said, I can only go on what is reported, but if true, its an absolute disgrace

Had the same discussion with my spine, although I already had plans... Can't sit, stand, drive or walk for more than 60 mins or so comfortably (although it's more bearable in the luxo-barge Omega) and definitely can't lift but my GP was adamant I was fit for work, even though my company doctor had said I wasn't ::)

As it happens, I was being medically retired 10 days later and had the Fuel Doctor plan in the pipeline :y

Benefits!!!!!! People have no idea of what is about to come, and it is NOT good; changes may have been well intentioned but poorly thought out are going to affect millions of people and put increased pressure on already under resourced social services. There will be few and far specialised help available as the CAB are having budgets reduced, LA welfare advice have no increase in staff or budget to cope with the anticipated demand, and I understand in some cases there will be no appeal :-\ :-\............ >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X

I believe Cameron wants to change the welfare system from the "Soft touch" it has become.
But how many truley vulnerable people will trampled underfoot in his points scoring & money saving scramble. Only time will tell how badly he get`s it wrong, but by then sadly it will be too late for some folks.

Interesting thread. I have numerous elderly, mostly living on their own, relatives and each week I am shocked by the small changes being introduced by surgeries and hospitals presumably to save money.

Just one example. Aunt , partially sighted , has to have a blood test each week on the orders of her doctor. They used to visit her home and look for that elusive vein. She now has to travel 70 miles each way to have it done at her own expense and more importantly endurance. She cannot drive.

It doesn't bode well for people who are getting on. The money and support is all going to the wrong groups(in my opinion). These are the generation that suffered to make our country good during the last war . And they did suffer.

If I read just once more about a hospital forgetting(or choosing) to not feed or give a patient a drink I think I will go mad.

Liverpool pathway. Hmm. Now I know about that, I realise that the bast****** did that to a relative that had a perfectly good life till he needed to go into hospital. He begged us not to let him be admitted. If only you could understand the charts on the bed frame and could feel able to ask what they are doing. Not good. Not good at all.

Thing is....this could backfire on Cameron, in as much as there will be a massive load of publicity on the situations like I outlined on my original post.

Lets hope so :y

but sadly most of it is all about publicity now i know break all about polotics probablly even spelt it wrong but the goverment services as its passed down the line must hit tragets savings to substanciate thier figures and positions so they go for the easy meat. The people that flout the system and take everything they can are hard to catch or get a result from the people that dont are easy prey, most of them have no clue what they can claim and how to do it anyway.

Whats the answer, no bloody idea its human nature in most people sadly to be greedy from the illegal imigrant to the politician, the honour in looking after those that have looked after the country has gone the forces , ederley and public services all get treated like shite not to mention the disabeled and generally peoples attitude to the disabled. Oh yes we do our bit in construction by building the odd ramp raising sockets higher, big deal. All the EU eco friendly directives etc that get enforced putting millions on build cost could fund well lots of stuff

It does not matter what system you adopt or implament some one will aduse it and after all the punishment never fits the crime.

The lottery fund, do they really help cancer pateints see out thier last days with support etc for familes, are decent wheel chairs available for people, try getting a set of cruches in hospital, think of the millions that is wasted on so called good causes

The challenge we have is that we as a country are in no position to keep funding the huge benefit bill (plus may other things such as armed forces, mp's perks etc).

A major issue is making sure we give just enough to live on which in some cases we clearly dont and in others we give to much. Benefits are seen by some as a right and an easy option.

I have no idea what the answer is but there is only one fact, to many kids and to idle to work cant be rewarded plus funding smoking, drinking, sky tv, designer cloths, foreign holidays cant be done any more.

Foremost in the government's mind when making economies, is to consider whose voice is the loudest at the ballot box, sadly. :(

I think the firm responsible for accessing the needs of people just sent out a blanket letter saying they were all able to work. Friends of mine then contested it and are still waiting now to see if they are OK. This started over 18 months ago and I know one of them is close to a breakdown with worry. She'll lose her house if they do take it away. Once when she tried to find out what was happening they said "why don't you start packing up your belongings so it's not such a shock if you are rejected" I've never seen somebody in such a mess over just one comment. On another note 6 years ago I had the mother of all motorbike accidents. Well I wasn't able to work for ages and had to get benefits. It was still tight but we made do. Once I was back at work they asked for the money back and took my child credits off me to pay for it. If I was from another country and had no intention of ever going back to work I'd never be expected to pay it back. So yes I do get bitter and twisted when people who are seen as easy targets get squeezed.  >:(

You`d get better treatment and also be told exactly what you can claim. Sadly English (born & bred from English parents) claimants are kept in the dark by the officialdom and consequently deserving cases are left short-changed
